$2200 Video Editing/Gaming Build help - Ralph - Aug 6, 2018 Hey So I'm helping my brother build a new PC for 4k Video editing as well as some gaming (Battlefield/Skyrim/Rainbow 6 Siege will be the most intense games he plays) I'm fairly knowledgeable when it comes to the gaming aspect, but I have 0 idea what he will need for video editing. I was thinking an 8700k with a 1080. I have no idea if that's good enough for rendering videos. He is open to different cases however for the time being he wants to stick with an ATX Mid preferable the Lian LI PC-011Air If anybody has any suggestions where to go with this I'm sure you guys have a better idea than I do. Budget does not need to include any software/peripherals, literally only the parts within the PC. RE: $2200 Video Editing/Gaming Build help - Breeze26509 - Aug 7, 2018 Does your brother use Adobe Premiere or Sony Vegas? RE: $2200 Video Editing/Gaming Build help - Takehito Morokuzu - Aug 7, 2018 Yeah an 8700k with a good cooler like that popular noctua one, overclocked will do the job perfectly. The 1080 should be more than enough EDIT: Or maybe wait for the i7 9700k which i think is coming out soon. Well hes coming from Using Final cut, he just got very annoyed with apple all around so wants to change it up. I believe he said he would be using Premiere. Also at a certain point if you're waiting for every new thing that releases, you will never be able to complete the build. RE: $2200 Video Editing/Gaming Build help - Oh Host Yeah Bud - Aug 7, 2018 I just got done with a build 3 months ago for the same purpose. Video editing, streaming and gaming. I have a I7-8700k, msi GTX 1080, 32 GB ram, 1tb Samsung m.2, 10tb hybrid drive. It is a beast of a PC I can stream 1080p, record at the same time with no lag and when I want to render a video or do 3d rendering it does it all with not breaking a sweat. Yea thats basically the plan with his. Its not going to be for streaming or recording gameplay really, its more for gaming+editing actual 4k drone footage and such. I think as of right now I'm thinking an 8700k with a nice noctua air cooler, MSI GTX 1080, 16GB of Ram to start just to see how it fairs, probably increase to 32GB within a few weeks. Im not really sure what Mobo to go with or PSU unfortunately I figure any z370 should work fine. RE: $2200 Video Editing/Gaming Build help - Xycon - Aug 7, 2018 Honestly, more cores are better here. Threadripper would be far better for video editing. RE: $2200 Video Editing/Gaming Build help - Ralph - Aug 7, 2018 (Aug 7, 2018 12:38 PM)Xycon Wrote: Honestly, more cores are better here. Threadripper would be far better for video editing. Yea thats what I was thinking. But at the same time it isn't like editing is his full time job, more just like a hobby with a small amount of income on the side. Is there a huge difference if he goes thread ripper compared to the 8700k? RE: $2200 Video Editing/Gaming Build help - Breeze26509 - Aug 7, 2018 (Aug 7, 2018 12:38 PM)Xycon Wrote: Honestly, more cores are better here. Threadripper would be far better for video editing. Not in Adobe software. 1950x trades blows with the 8700k. This is why I asked if OP's brother uses Premiere or Sony Vegas. If they used Sony Vegas, I would have no problem recommending Threadripper here. @OP I will update this post with a build in about an hour or so. Is there a huge difference if he goes thread ripper compared to the 8700k? I would go with the Threadripper 1950X or something similar. Not too pricey for such a high end cpu. and with that budget you can fit in a 1080 maybe even ti. Honestly could be way under budget by the end of the build. Give me like 30 minutes as I am workign right now but ill try to come up with something on partpicker. RE: $2200 Video Editing/Gaming Build help - ohxerxe - Aug 7, 2018 Okay so i am kinda wrong here havent really looked into the supporting Motherboards of the threadrippers but they are a little more expensive than I thought. Without storage though and other things this comes out to a VERY powerful machine within budget ish. Also this is with a Full ATX sized machine but I think he would really like this build https://pcpartpicker.com/list/VDbBhy can cut things down here and there like the case and maybe noy 32gb of ram and could use the savings toward storage. RE: $2200 Video Editing/Gaming Build help - Breeze26509 - Aug 7, 2018 If editing isn't his full time job, then I honestly don't see the point in going with Threadripper... It will certainly be there, but its not really a full time job, so its more of a hobby lets say. I threw this together with some suggestions. I think the storage is fair with 4TB on the Mechanical and almost 1TB on the NVME SSD. The 1080 Should be good enough for the games he plans on playing, and the 8700k is a good mixture of both Cores and gaming ability. He isnt looking to render a 4k video in record time or anything, more or less just want to make sure it can do it without the software crashing. Still have $150ish to work with however that may just end up going into a decent secondary IPS monitor for previews. Adata SX8200 is about the same performance as the Samsung 960 EVO, at the same price as a 1TB 860 EVO. 750w is overkill. 32GB is definitely overkill if editing isn't the main priority (Even then, that depends on how complex his timeline gets). You could take my build, and add another 16GB kit later on if he really needs it, and switch out the drive for the 4TB.
