I built a landing page for a client. How does it look? - Super - Sep 14, 2018 So I have a client that wants to start his own web design business, and he asked me to build the landing page for him. I'd love to get your guys' feedback on how it looks! Check it out: https://zeroweb.surge.sh Features
I still gotta work on the Services/About/Portfolio pages, but I'm really happy with the landing page I built. Let me know what you guys think 🎉 Dynamo RE: I built a landing page for a client. How does it look? - Nachfolger - Sep 14, 2018 I'm a fan of it, and if you know me, you know that's rare. The gradient of blue is a nice touch, and I think shows itself very nicely. With that being said: -- Replace retarded particles.js with something better. Every person trying to be unique uses it and guess what, it's not unique. Atleast use your own design, this looks like a default config. -- It looks like you're using Bootstrap. If so, I can't even imagine why. -- If you're not using Bootstrap, and opting to use jQuery: Shame on you. Learn how to use Vanilla Js, it's much more beautiful. The gradient of blue is a nice touch, and I think shows itself very nicely. You like doing things the hardest way possible, don't you? Now that we have tree shaking with Webpack and CSS elimination with PurifyCSS, there's no point in doing things the the old fashioned way anymore. I can quickly scaffold my design with Bootstrap and JQuery, then let Webpack and PurifyCSS delete all the ununused code blocks. Everything that isn't being used (whether that be JS or CSS) is stripped away in the build pipeline. And for the record, I know how to use vanilla JS. I like to use JQuery for it's utility functions, especially when I'm not using a DOM framework like React or Angular. So I guess my question for you is: do you build literally every web project from scratch? No libraries and frameworks for CSS or JS? RE: I built a landing page for a client. How does it look? - Angela White - Sep 14, 2018 probably a dumb question but i was designing a site the other day and wanted to use those effects you have but i forgot the name of the js library for it. what is it called again? site looks good btw RE: I built a landing page for a client. Go ham with it. By the way, here's the Chrome performance audit: ![]() (Sep 14, 2018 01:32 PM)Faith Connors Wrote: 0/10 bc i cant touch the particles and it makes me angery>:( It should actually respond to mouse hover. Everything that isn't being used (whether that be JS or CSS) is stripped away in the build pipeline.First, I want to retract my statement about vanilla JS. I didn't mean to word it as if you didn't know how to use it. That was a product of not proof reading enough times. Second, at one point, no. But after awhile I got tired of including so many dependencies (Bs, jQ, Tether, And so on) so I slowly started learning how to do things the correct way from the start. Every developer has their own opinion on the way a website should be built. But I'm a fan of not including 10 libraries just to ease the development and save myself 20 minutes. I'm also a big fan of doing things from scratch and on my own. The less of other people's code I use, the happier I am. Call it reinventing the wheel, I call it, not being lazy about my code. The root of my hatred for jQuery comes from my own faults. I learned "javascript" by using jQuery. I became overly dependent on it. I didn't even know how to select a DOM element without it. Not sure what triggered it, but I eventually just started learning vanilla, and shortly after, completely avoided jQuery. I have no problem writing 5 lines to create an element, vs one ugly one using jQuery. A lot of what I do revolves around big and repetative document element changes, so jQuery would cause a significant lag to the UI instead of using pure js. In the end, we all do what we want. I'm still going to grill anyone not in alignment with my own opinions. Sue me. RE: I built a landing page for a client. My pricing changes based on the project, but for a simple landing page like this (with multiple pages like About, Contact, Services, etc.) it would be at least $100. I definitely charge more if the website requires a backend, but for static sites I don't charge too much. Feel free to PM me if you'd like my help on a project 🤝 RE: I built a landing page for a client. How does it look? - Slimeey - Sep 26, 2018 Nice landing page, love pages with particles.
