What happened to the mass amounts of mybb plugins - emotionull - Oct 28, 2018
It's extremely hard to find decent plugins now and days, what happen to them all? It seems Mybb did a site change and now no one uploads them.

I guess developers stopped caring for MyBB and switched to our projects. By developers, I don't mean on mybb ones, I mean on those who contribute their time and will into making something better. 😉

I wouldn't doubt it tbh but it does make me sad, I remember how active it use to be a few years ago. I guess it just motivates me more to learn to do it myself.

You'll have to know PHP for that. Mybb has solid documentation so with some experimenting I'm sure you can make something interesting. If you get good at it, you can even sell plugins and earn money from it later down the road. :)

I think MyBB is in a drought period right now tbh
There's not many Plugin Developers, or even Theme Designers as active as they use to be. Look at the Website Showcase, there's WAY less forums being made nowadays its actually quite boring.
Maybe Forums overall are just dead now, who knows.

No plugins have actually been removed, and the Mod/Extend site is still there. Mods Site. Extend Site. So I'm unsure what you mean by plugins are hard to find now. Was there any plugin you was looking for specifically?
Most developers are actually waiting for 1.9 to come out so then they don't have to bother upgrading their 1.8 plugins to 1.9, hence the lack of development at the moment.

@OP if you need a plugin done, it won't be hard finding a coder for hire that can do it.

MyBB 1.8 seems to have a lot of bugs for the most part. I can see why not many developers are trying to stay away from it. There are still lots of plugins though for 1.8 on the Extend portion of the MyBB community. I have a whole bunch of good plugins lately. You just gotta know what you're looking for.

MyBB 1.9 is coming very soon, that's why. There are a lot of plugins made privately for forums that are running 1.8 at the moment, though.

MyBB 2.0 was paused as its primary purpose, a complete rewrite of the core was deemed to take too long. Rather than wait multiple years to develop 2.0, they've opted to rewrite portions of the core with each 1.x iteration. This way they can push our rewritten portions of the core faster- portions/segments versus the entirety.
