Is the dutch police intercepting encrypted otr messages? - giantdirewolf - Nov 7, 2018 Hey guys, I've heard media news and rumors about the dutch police being able to decrypt xmpp with otr. Anyone else seeing this? Any more details? RE: Is the dutch police intercepting encrypted otr messages? - Τroye - Nov 7, 2018 Pretty sure the end-to-end encrypted messages can't be intercepted by the government! RE: Is the dutch police intercepting encrypted otr messages? - Gt403cyl - Nov 7, 2018 Anything is possible but without any real confirmation it’s just rumors.... RE: Is the dutch police intercepting encrypted otr messages? - Smexy - Nov 7, 2018 I've seen the news because I'm based here in The Netherlands. I'm not sure, the gov tries it hardest to keep us sheep well. RE: Is the dutch police intercepting encrypted otr messages? - DrDoof - Nov 7, 2018 I seriously doubt this is nothing more than just intercepting the encrypted messages, and then literally nothing more, because they will never be able to decrypt it without the clients' keys. RE: Is the dutch police intercepting encrypted otr messages? - PURITYRING437 - Nov 7, 2018 Police will use news and media to spread false narratives, such as tor being compromised or certain forms of encryption being crackable as a method of spreading fear, uncertainty, and doubt. RE: Is the dutch police intercepting encrypted otr messages? - CyberStrike - Nov 8, 2018 It tends to be a bit more difficult to get information out to Europe, when it relates to state malware campaigns. It happens throughout the world though and we know for a fact that the UK/Germany/France (perhaps more) have either confirmed,, amended laws, or been caught using such software against their citizens. Example: https://www.zdnet.com/article/isp-involvement-suspected-in-latest-finfisher-govt-spyware-campaign/ With the help of an ISP perhaps even infiltration of VPN's (eg NSA does this) why would it be impossible? Perhaps not exactly the "Police" but maybe information is forwarded onto them.
