Duck Duck Go Experiment - Omniscient - Nov 30, 2018
I have decided to replace my default search with DuckDuckGo and see how it does. It's definitely a pretty nice search engine and I'm going to use it for a full week and see how I like it. Will I miss the Google interactions, ads, and suggestions? We'll see if having a simpler search is better or if I'll yearn for the intelligence of Google.
If you're interested in this why not join me? Most browsers have DDG as an option for default search. Go into your settings and make the change.

I don't even use google anymore unless I have to. The benefits it provides don't make it more worth it than duckduckgo for me. It's a good search engine.

i actually like its clean UI its a pleasant change from googles Ad's, suggestions are helpful now and then imo.
but so far it looks nice and simple and clean

I dipped my toe into the vast waters of this a while back. I was soon back using Google. I just love some of the features Google offers and missed them too much.

And I thought HF was only used by skids?
DDG is a legit search engine in the classic sense. Google isn't really a search engine anymore. It's more like a "personal information based suggestions" engine.

True that, I mean I can’t even go on google anymore without atleast 20% of my visual field being filled with suggestions or ads, don’t get me wrong there handy sometimes.

For us millennials and the general public tbh, Google is the only search engine even if it is extremely bias and manipulated. There was that short push for Bing, with bing vs google campaigns, but I’m sure google is used more.
Google is a fucking verb nowadays lol, “google it” when telling someone to go find it out themself most often meant as in literally use google.
In college classes they even teach you how to USE google to properly search for academic sources lol.
I’ll rephrase - I only know about DDG cuz of TOR :p

I have used DDG for 2 years as default (I found it trough TOR like everybody) it’s improved a lot.
Google with his attempts to guess what you’re searching definitely ruined the experience, expecially if most of what you re looking for isnt from your country, isnt in your country language or simply unespected. Their grab-money-policies sux (who readed about the dragonfly project in china? Is pretty recent) google=evil funny how his slogan was: Don’t be evil.

A lot of hate for Google from hf members. I've struggled to figure out why. For the most part they seem like a genuine technology company with the leading step towards developing AI and futuristic technology.
