As a programmer | If you are a programmer - RealyWhite - Dec 26, 2018

I have just started my career as a programmer. i am studying C and ASM programming.
If you have experience you can share with us.....
Long way to go..

Any Advice!!

Why the hell are you studying ASM? And C developers are not in very high demand. If your goal is a legitimate career learn Java, Python, or Javascript+Node.

spacex was coded in c and it has above 4 billion lines of code.

but yes, back to op, only study c if you have no life

You're officially an idiot. Congratulations.

SpaceX doesn't use C, they use C++ for low level applications. There is literally no reason to learn C over C++. C++ is literally just improved C.

Why would you learn C when C++ exists?

C is in demand as well. In this day and age many companies still search Cobol programmers..

Cobol - 1304 jobs on Indeed.com

Javascript - 43365 jobs on Indeed.com

Cobol generally pays more due to the fact nobody actually knows it. 1300 jobs is more than enough ;)

That doesn't change the fact that learning C or Cobol with the goal of obtaining a career is a relatively horrible idea.

It's not a horrible idea as long as you are really good at it and enjoy what you are doing. Know many companies (mainly industry) that are searching for c programmers.

It's not horrible, if OP is still not sure what he wants to do it is.

It's horrible compared to learning JavaScript, Python, Java, or C++. Also known as languages that new software is still being produced in.

Why would you learn C when C++ exists?

You never said c++, you specifically said Java, python, Javascript and node. You can't compare C/C++ to high level languages like python and scripting languages. C is fairly useful when dealing with assembly and reverse engineering in general. And don't forget that the effort needed to advance to c++ from c is minimal. It's also very useful to know what happens behind the scenes rather than trusting big ass libraries to do the work for you. Learning C (and asm) will give you some good insight into the inner workings of the computer since it is a fairly low level language. Combine that with assembly and I can guarantee you that this knowledge will help you on your way to becoming a very competent debugger and problem solver.

It's also worth noting that that learning other languages once you've mastered c/c++ is fairly easy.

True, but there is still no reason to use C, C++ or ASM over high level languages if you plan on coding something original.

Original? I'm afraid you have to elaborate on what you mean by original. C++ is widely preferred for resource hungry desktop applications and not to mention in the gaming industry. Java is nice as a beginner language though, as a first step in to the coding world as well as being cross platform and all that but because the code must first be interpreted during run-time, it’s also MUCH slower. C++ is generally reserved for software that needs “hardware-level” manipulation, for working directly with hard drive, memory or cpu. Spice it up with some assembly knowledge and you'll definitely understand everything that happens beneath the hood of any application or drivers. C++ is also common with gaming applications where speed is highly necessary.

C and C++ was very fun to learn and easy to understand after reading a few textbooks.
