I use the tp-link TL-WN722N v1, it works on every machine and VM running kali for monitor mode and injections. Usually problems are caused by bad VM configurations or corrupted os installations.
Sadly the first version chipset is hard to find.
Anyway I suggest you this link

Lately I was looking for something better (and expensive)
I found this one

It should work perfectly with kali but I have not tested it yet

I use the alfa AWUS036NH. It has a great range and supports multi monitor mode. My favorite so far hands down.

None of the dongles listed are dual-band which is fast becoming the standard. I'd suggest trying the 802.11ac-capable Alfas instead (except the four antenna ac1900 which doesn't have propper driver support yet).

I have seen people have trouble and getting the wrong version of the TL-WN722N, at work they gave us Alfa's and generally they worked well.
