Tom Wood and Porn - newbie1775 - Jan 15, 2019 So I'm a software engineer who's delving into the art of hacking, looking to change careers from deving to hacking. I work on a methodology of leaving no question unanswered. I came across this article about a adolescent boy named Tom Wood who cracked an Australian porn filter. htt*ps://w*ww.*smh.*com.au/national/te*enager-cracks-govts-84m-porn-filter-20070825-gdqy8b.html Tried to delve into it to see how he did it... but to no avail. Does anyone perhaps know? RE: Tom Wood and Porn - r4mbl3r - Jan 15, 2019 First, this article is over 10 years old. Apparently the Australian government was giving out parental control software at the time. That sort of client-side filter tended to not be very good. He probably just found a way to access an HTTPS proxy. If the proxy itself isn't blocked, the filter can easily be bypassed. Back in high school, we used to set up SSH boxes at home and use PuTTY to tunnel our connections. RE: Tom Wood and Porn - Ram - Jan 15, 2019 Well if you wanna start hacking, you will end up in jail or working for companies on improving their security xD RE: Tom Wood and Porn - maddamvp - Jan 16, 2019 Just be a security specialist for the good guys, White hat hacking therefore if you ever wanted to go blackhat you would already know what you were doing. Takes good brains to become black hat hacker. You wouldnt depend on anyone then. RE: Tom Wood and Porn - newbie1775 - Jan 22, 2019 Thanks for the tip. Accessing an HTTPS proxy seems far less impressive than I imagined. I thought him to be some wunderkind... but reality is often disappointing. Also, yeah. I already contacted a white hat firm here, I got really good marks for my formal programming studies, so they gave me info on what I should be able to do in order to land a job there. The pay is brilliant. And then, of course, if ever the need arises to do something below board... I'd be able to. Hacking = infinite possibilities. And risk is sexy! |
