Unable to locate package error message - Stanley_Mic - Feb 15, 2019

So I have just started using Kali Linux, besides the installation of the OS I have not done anything with it. I am trying to use (apt-get install leafpad) but every time I enter this into the terminal, I get this message (E : unable to find package leafpad) I have tried to edit the sources.list file but i'm not sure I did it correctly. Most people tell me to use leafpad to open sources.list but since I cant download it I used the line (sudo nano sources.list) currently I have the following lines in the file.

deb http :// http. kali.org/ kali kali-rolling main contrib non-free

For source package access, uncomment the following line

deb-src http :// http .kali.org /kali kali-rolling main contrib non-free

When I try to update apt-get I only get one line that says (Reading package lists..........done) and then nothing changes, I still get the same error as before. Hopefully somebody has a fix for this because I don't have any other ideas on how to fix this. Thank you.

There are spaces in the URL because I cant post links on this site.

Probably you didnt save the sources list after editing it.

Pretty sure I saved it, when I open it again after closing it the text is still there.

If you are using leaped and modifying the source file, are you doing it with root permissions? I agree with Oblivion it didn't get saved most likely. If you are 100% sure that it has been saved. Please run and share the output.

Code
cat /etc/apt/sources.list
