Will Anime Stand the Test of Time? - Spaark - Mar 23, 2019 As a non-anime watcher I can only stand on the sidelines and wonder, is this a genre that will survive the next 50 years? With Virtual Reality and other media enhancing technologies on the way, will 2D Japanese Art be able to stay relevant? It seems since the beginning of time there has be action films out of hollywood, and if that's a overgeneralisation consider spy films such as the Bond Series. Do you think Anime will be an interest of your grandchildren? And what do you expect to change to progress it into the future? RE: Will Anime Stand the Test of Time? - UrLocalNewbie - Mar 23, 2019 I think that, like VR porn, there's actually hentai VR as well, never seen it tho, but i think some people progressed this far, so i don't see why they won't create a non-pornographic anime. As a matter of fact, i think it'll be an amazing experience. It might damage the idea of going to the movies (unless movie theaters somehow adapted to this). Idk how they're gonna switch you from one scene or position in the same scene to another in a smooth way tho, but imagine being there in a very intense battle. I get goosebumps from some non-VR anime battles already. RE: Will Anime Stand the Test of Time? - int - Mar 23, 2019 by that logic you can say will television survive at all? because its 2d and what about images, art, etc? I think none of the ideas will change from just vr, but some stuff will be improved. VR is looking really nice, just waiting for prices to go down so I can buy RE: Will Anime Stand the Test of Time? - Spaark - Mar 23, 2019 (Mar 23, 2019 03:36 PM)terrydavis Wrote: by that logic you can say will television survive at all? because its 2d I think the way we consume entertainment that is on todays screens will evolve drastically. I wan't to know where HF's anime fans think their favourite genre will fit into all of this. RE: Will Anime Stand the Test of Time? - N1ghtm4re - Mar 23, 2019 anime existed before I was even born. That being said, it clearly has the capability of "standing the test of time". Casual entertainment will need to be interactive, everything will be customisable. Todays TV watching will turn into light video gaming experiences. Anime is 2D and that's going to be difficult to put into a 3D world, one in which you're enabled to via VR or Hologram. Also an afterthought: how fucking old can you be to say that anime existing to your current age is an achievement that will guarantee it's success decades from now? Anime is already over a 100 years old, can't see why it wouldn't be here in 50. If anything was to change about anime it could be they way they animate or draw the shows, idk. Even if it becomes VR only I still think it would be something people would watch, no doubt. Applying the same logic, the Soviet Union lasted 69 years yet failed to evolve in order to survive. I do agree with what you're saying, but what happens when we can all live in a virtual reality for our entertainment rather than watch tv. Do you think cardboard cut outs of characters will suffice for anime fans? RE: Will Anime Stand the Test of Time? - typhoid - Mar 26, 2019 dude not only will anime survive it will be the real life in the future RE: Will Anime Stand the Test of Time? - ss2k - Mar 27, 2019 I think it will survive. It's just something about drawn animation, its about art - anime > real life RE: Will Anime Stand the Test of Time? - Houtarou - Mar 27, 2019 Anime should have no problem surviving honestly. Putting it into perspective based on your comment, Japanese animation is only seven years younger than the first Hollywood film ever (though today's anime style didn't become prevalent until around the 1960s). Considering the fact that anime is in its most popular decade ever, and has been growing in popularity since inception (ignoring a few off years, which all industries have anyway), I don't see why it wouldn't continue to be relevant. That being said, I do think that after it peaks, technology will continue advancing while anime may start heading back down towards the more "niche" days. At the end of the day though, this industry, in particular, operates on a lot of passion (more so than other entertainment industries). I can't imagine that not being the case anytime soon. RE: Will Anime Stand the Test of Time? - Armageto - Mar 27, 2019 I think it will survive because it's simply cartoons and cartoons are adaptive. Different technologies can be used for cartoons and anime (take Houseki no Kuni for example) and people still consider it anime. As long as cartoons are still around, and they probably always will be because they're a great way to explore concepts that either don't work as well with realistic graphics or just because of budget, anime will be around. RE: Will Anime Stand the Test of Time? - killmanable - Mar 31, 2019 Anime is spreading faster than ever before. Watching anime is considered to be not as bad as it was back then (for teenagers) RE: Will Anime Stand the Test of Time? - Happeh - Apr 1, 2019 (Mar 23, 2019 01:50 PM)Spaark Wrote: As a non-anime watcher I can only stand on the sidelines and wonder, is this a genre that will survive the next 50 years?
