Bring back the option for Ub3r members to delete/hide their threads - ElasticWeed - Apr 4, 2019

So I'm not sure when and why this was removed, but I personally really liked being able to control my own content.

I understand that locking/unlocking a thread is sort of similar, but sometimes I just don't want something I've posted to be publicly visible anymore.

Is there any reason why this couldn't be brought back?

Dead links are bad for SEO and HF can't afford to lose its rank on google.

I think this is one of the dumbest things ever. You don't own that content, HF does. Maybe if the thread has no replies, you should be allowed to delete it (within a few hours of posting). But aside from that, I vote no.

Omni has been continuously open about why it's disabled, it was abused.

I mean, you can still kill the links on google with the help of either outdated content or simply claiming it has personal info on you in it (which it technically has), so i don't really see how google ranking is valid here.

How is it abuse to remove your own content?

And yes yes, bullshit American laws where companies gain the rights to your work just because you upload it to them. Doesn't make it right though.

I honestly rarely post anything on HF these days due to this reason, instead only doing PM's or talking vaguely about a topic or sit in the lounge.

Well I'd rather just not talk then, it's hardly as if HF is the one and only place to have a discussion with people.

The constant restrictions being imposed is what I believe has turned a lot of older users away from HF these days. It has become a cluster of incestuous advertising and circle jerking.

The admins can still see it obviously...

EDIT: Hell, I'd even be ok with exempting the market sections from this all together as I understand that's a different forum.

Don't post retarded things, and then you won't regret it later. If you look at my early threads, you will see how insanely autistic I was, but you don't see me crying over the fact that other people can still see those threads and posts.

I get the idea that we all post something we regret and want to delete it, occasionally, but I don't sympathize with you for being too much of a baby to post your threads and deal with the repercussions or regret of saying something you wish you hadn't.

I rarely post anything offensive and never anything I couldn't own up to, but I'm a strong proponent of The right to be forgotten, which I don't understand that more Americans (especially HF users) aren't for.

If I want data I've posted removed, I should be able to have it removed, simple as that.

I don't understand what you are saying. Deleted threads cause high bounce rate which damages SEO. If a thread has your personal info and you want it deleted, maybe you can ask staff to delete it. A concern about privacy is a legitimate reason to delete a thread

Never going to happen as it was abused. Why not edit content out, change title to "Please Delete"? It's the next best thing.

I'm saying that you can already edit threads and have them removed off google, so I really don't see SEO as a valid reason.

It's more of a general concept of freedom for me. I like to be in control of the data I share, simple as that.

Eh. It's the internet. I don't post things if I don't want them to be on the internet for eternity. You might be better off writing one-off hand written letters to your friends. It's safer.

We don't see eye-to-eye on this, and we never will. Glws.
