Rookie problem with Alfa AWUS036NH - solvista - Apr 10, 2019 I'm a complete rookie, so I'm sorry about the triviality of this post, but I'd really appreciate a little help. I bought an Alfa Network AWUS036NH 2000mW Antena Wifi USB because it was recommended on the beginners' course I'm starting. It works pretty well pre-connection (in monitor mode) but it is a nightmare trying to get it to show available networks and when it eventual decides it will show me a list I can't connect to a KNOWN network. I'm running an instance of Kali on Virtual box. I've tried the same thing with a cheap tp-link adapter (which doesn't support monitor mode) and I can connect to the network with that. What is going wrong with my Alfa adapter? (Apr 10, 2019 03:49 AM)solvista Wrote: I'm a complete rookie, so I'm sorry about the triviality of this post, but I'd really appreciate a little help. UPDATE: Scratch that. It eventually connected. I didn't do anything different. Just repeatedly told it to connect. RE: Rookie problem with Alfa AWUS036NH - SIMPR - Apr 10, 2019 make sure you update kali linux before doing any pen-testing on it RE: Rookie problem with Alfa AWUS036NH - Elweth - Apr 10, 2019 Iirc you gotta update or change drivers or something. You gotta do a network down and up too. You wouldn't believe how many times I've "downed" and "upped" stuff these last few days. Good advice. Thanks RE: Rookie problem with Alfa AWUS036NH - SP2005 - Apr 11, 2019 The adapter you have, is it green ? I have 3 of them and I also have some problems with them. Two of them got a green LED and the last one has a blue LED. The one with the blue LED works best - but it still has problems I then bought a AWUS036NHA (it's black) and it works just perfect. It has a Ralink RT3070 chipset and I thought I was buying the one with an Atheros AR9271 (the black one ---NHA, not ---NH). I've ordered the black one. It'll be with me on Saturday morning. Hopefully problem solved. Thanks for the reply! RE: Rookie problem with Alfa AWUS036NH - air1 - Apr 13, 2019 If I had to guess... I think the device might be pretty far away? Usually have no problem disconnecting my test networks at a distance, but getting the test victim to reconnect at such a distance to the Alfa is impossible. Try getting closer? |
