Creating a community for college. Help me decide. - Zeke - Apr 27, 2019

Hey, so I've been wanting to start a community for my uni since a while now. However, I'm unsure about the path I should choose for this.

The idea is to have groups on the community for different clubs, categories and stuff like that. I want people to actually start interacting and involving themselves in the community, so I don't want anything that looks too boring to people that are new to forums and stuff like that.

So the question is: Should I go for a wordpress community template that uses BuddyPress and BBPress (like: http://diaboliquedesign.com/demo/onecommunity-new/ , I like the groups part there looks cool) or should I go for a forum-style site using IP Board (because it has the best looking themes) (theme I like: https://veilon.net/ips/ >> choose Veizor Dark from the footer)

My uni currently has no way for students to interact with each other and this will be a great idea. Getting traction and user base will not be a problem because I have a definite marketing plan for this and also official support from the higher ups. I just want people to stay after they register and involve.

Doubt: Is it possible to create blocks on a forum software for different groups like [url=http://diaboliquedesign.com/demo/onecommunity-new/groups/]here?/url]

With regards to forum software the choices are quite limited.

How are the choices in forum software limited? I disagree entirely.

OP, I say run away from the idea of using something forum based. Go for a open source social network. There's a plethora of them available, all for free. Otherwise, I would say build it from scratch, be original.
