Tips on starting jump starting a forum? - debian - May 3, 2019

I'm starting a cryptocurrency trading community and the idea/implementation is good.

I just now need users to fill the site up. Does anyone have tips on how I can jump start a user-base of this type?

Cheers! 🤝

advertising. you can pay for advertising through google, it's probably the best option.

I'm hesitant of advertising at this stage because I feel like it would be a waste of money - Potential users would visit the site through the advertisement and then see that there are no users/content and then they'd leave.

how do you expect to get users without content. When you said you had an idea i assumed you had content. so youre right, without content nobody will want to visit.

I suggest getting content before you can get users.

Good ideas guys, thanks.

I think I'm gonna spend a week or so filling it with as much "user-generated" content as possible and then also fake users and fake posts. Then I'll start advertising it as an "Invite only forum, registration currently open" or something. So users need to register before viewing any of the content. At least at first

You may find dedicated followers if you provide unique quality content even without activity from other members.

Right, I won't go overboard. Just a little mix of fake users and real content. And yeah, content is what gets users more than anything

I'd love to hear Omni's thoughts on this. He's started many forums and is probably most experienced to give advice on what makes or breaks a forum.

That being said, it wouldn't surprise me if trade secrets were kept close to his chest.

Advertising through a blog may be where you should start. Youtube also. I was thinking maybe you could reach out to ICO’s and tell them you have a new forum, and make their own section for discussion for free of course. This will get you traffic, and there are literally thousands of ICO’s.
