Binance hacked. 7000 BTC stolen. - Net - May 8, 2019 Binance team: We have discovered a large scale security breach today, May 7, 2019 at 17:15:24 (UTC). Hackers were able to obtain a large number of user API keys, 2FA codes, and potentially other info. The hackers used a variety of techniques, including phishing, viruses and other attacks. We are still concluding all possible methods used. There may also be additional affected accounts that have not been identified yet. The hackers were able to withdraw 7000 BTC in this one transaction: https://www.blockchain.com/btc/tx/e8b406091959700dbffcff30a60b190133721e5c39e89bb5fe23c5a554ab05ea The above transaction is the only affected transaction. It impacted our BTC hot wallet only (which contained about 2% of our total BTC holdings). All of our other wallets are secure and unharmed. The hackers had the patience to wait, and execute well-orchestrated actions through multiple seemingly independent accounts at the most opportune time. The transaction is structured in a way that passed our existing security checks. It was unfortunate that we were not able to block this withdrawal before it was executed. Once executed, the withdrawal triggered various alarms in our system. We stopped all withdrawals immediately after that. Binance will use the #SAFU fund to cover this incident in full. No user funds will be affected. We must conduct a thorough security review. The security review will include all parts of our systems and data, which is large. We estimate this will take about ONE WEEK. We will post updates frequently as we progress. Most importantly, deposits and withdrawals will need to REMAIN SUSPENDED during this period of time. We beg for your understanding in this difficult situation. We will continue to enable trading, so that you may adjust your positions if you wish. Please also understand that the hackers may still control certain user accounts and may use those to influence prices in the meantime. We will monitor the situation closely. But we believe with withdrawals disabled, there isn’t much incentive for hackers to influence markets. In this difficult time, we strive to maintain transparency and would be appreciative of your support. Literally looking at my wallet as soon I wake up, major profits with the rise of BTC over night. I am so happy, then I go check my profile in binance to see where my investments stand. My account was stolen, I lost $1400 in BTC . I wonder if I will even get my money back ever. Contacted support and they are probably going to take forever to answer. So I assume I won't be getting back my portfolio until at least then. This means $500-750 of profits just completely lost and also sets me back in time within my investing profile. Just paying back money will never cover the losses, they know that. This is the least they can do in these occurences, if they did not return funds they would be scrutinized and people would never use their exchange again. Me being one of them. As far as I know, people who were affected were targets of phishing attacks or anything such, which I'd say is your own fault, should be happy that Binance is covering losses at all. What makes you think this? Also I suggest you to read the Help Docs, this is against the rules to speak about. This was most definitely not what happened, I suggest you to research it. This was an exploit in their API system and had no relation to that, in fact I am dumbfounded as to where you got this information from because it is just impossible. I wonder how this phishing attack happened, something doesn't add up. Now hackforums users cant even recognize a phishing attack ? I dont think so. There is something behind this shit. They also said API keys were leaked. Sir, you were using api keys to trade on bot or something? Calm your tits and stop being such a pompous twat, he's merely pointing out what the article said. RE: Binance hacked. 7000 BTC stolen. - Deal - May 9, 2019 It’s super crazy man. 40 million dollars is a sick amount. Especially with them being untraceable. There is something behind this shit I am going to abstain from talking about this due to the rules outlined in the blackhat activity page and not willing to take risks of warning level, even though I know this is not speaking with bad intentions on the topic. I was told from Binance support that my account was compromised directly in relation to their open vulnerability which allowed for 2factor authentication to be bypassed. Whether that is truth or not, I will take with a grain of salt. But I can confirm is impossible for my details to have been stolen through such blackhat methods that should not be named ;) It was not a targeted attack towards myself or others, rather Binance platform itself. I was never locked out of access to my account, and nobody was in fact. The users effected by this would log in after the attack happened, and when checking portfolio it would redirect to the security breach notes. Only today my balance appeared as normal, and have been since having issues with creating market trades, unsure why. I contacted their support and am expecting a response once they clear everything up. There is likely thousands on thousands of support requests right now and going to take forever, but I hope it will be fixed before then. This has set me back quite some time that is for sure, and time is money. (May 9, 2019 02:07 AM)Bill Gates Wrote: If you read the article............ Nice posting etiquette 😉 This is more than common sense, but this is most definitely not what happened in context of what the user stated. If you do your due diligence and research, you will learn as to why this was not related in any sort of way. It was not people who were targeted, and not their machines, rather API keys specifically ;) But I guess you would not know that, you know what the term is for somebody who is conditioned of being uneducated, misinformed or unaware? Anybody interested in diving in to the conspiracies posted in many subreddits, I suggest researching the SAFU and bitcoin fraud in China over these past 2 years 😉 There are some interesting reads that is for sure RE: Binance hacked. 7000 BTC stolen. - Bill Gates - May 9, 2019 (May 9, 2019 02:14 AM)BTC Wrote: I am going to abstain from talking about this due to the rules outlined in the blackhat activity page and not willing to take risks of warning level, even though I know this is not speaking with bad intentions on the topic. You waffle a lot of shit to say very little........stop being a tryhard. You asked him where he got the idea that it was through phishing, he pointed it out to you and I had to confirm it via posting the actual first sentence of the OP's link, I couldn't give 2 flying fucks if he's wrong or right, you're just a pompous sneb twat, who tried to talk down to him for pointing the obvious to you.......clown. Try less man, someone might actually think you're not a total knobhead. Quote: were targets of phishing attacks or anything such, which I'd say is your own fault, Now, in my perspective, blaming the users effected is insinuating the fact that this was user-related. In that context, my reply made perfect sense. I did not talk down to him in any sort of way, I was not attempting to belittle him, I am just curious why he sees this: Quote:used a variety of techniques, including phishing, viruses and other attacks. And immediately jumps to the conclusion this is user-related and direct attacks towards the people, or their machines, and sensitive data. This was not the case, in fact if you did your research, yes you would learn this as well. Of course the way it's worded, they left it open for suspicions. I simply asked the user to share with me his opinion, and nothing less. Whether you like to take that as "talking down" or not is completely in your card deck. But stooping down to shit posting just because of your own ignorance? Makes no sense, what you got nothing better to do with your time? You are just jumping to conclusions, taking everything out of context and attempting to flame me on something you are evidently so uninformed about. Nice job. @ComputerScience since it needs to be stated for some users to understand, I know your intelligence is not this low. I assume you understood what I meant, and would take no offence from this as those were never my intentions. But I was not trying to talk down to you, in fact I am extremely curious as to what you think of the situation and how you think it is my fault or any other users fault? Yes I suppose I am at fault for trusting such an exchange, but I did not leave a substantial amount in my portfolio to trigger me or cause me to be greatly damaged by this. Rather more of an annoyance because I enjoyed checking up everyday to see the prices of all my investments 😉 RE: Binance hacked. 7000 BTC stolen. - Bill Gates - May 9, 2019 (May 9, 2019 01:59 AM)ComputerScience Wrote: As far as I know, people who were affected were targets of phishing attacks or anything such, which I'd say is your own fault, should be happy that Binance is covering losses at all. He obviously read the link the OP posted and said what he did, he wasn't chatting about anything Blackhat or untoward, yet you bang out the rule book like he's actually discussing the banned topic via thread and entire post when he isn't you sneb. I don't care if he is indeed right or wrong, you just went wading in with slapping links to Help Docs and trying to back seat admin him via post. You're a sneb. He wasn't breaking rules by typing the word phishing, he wasn't chatting about it, making threads or posts about it, he was referencing the OPS link regarding the topic at hand and one of the possible outcomes to why some members might have lost their account. Bye, take it easy and join the list. I was helping him, in no way was I trying to do any harm with directing him where to read about the rules regarding that topic. I am unsure why you see it being such a bad gesture to help other users with expanding their site knowledge. That is a bit ridiculous. In fact, me posting that was not only for him but any other users who may come to this thread to discuss. Maybe a user who is fresh in to the forums joins in the conversation, not realizing that this topic is listed in the blackhat activity page. The last thing I want is to mislead newcomers to the forums, I rather welcome them and help educate them to expand their site knowledge. (May 9, 2019 02:44 AM)Bill Gates Wrote: Then you begin to belittle him by saying you're dumbfounded to where he got his information from, ![]() https://www.wordnik.com/words/dumbfound I understand you may have some personal views as to why you do not like the term dumbfounded, but in literal terms I was using it properly. I was not using this in a demeaning or belittling manner. You can use this term in that manner, for example if the user was evidently confident in their decision on a matter, and I insinuated or told the user that they were dumbfounded. That would be insulting, however in this context I was speaking of myself, as to my own astonishment. I think you need to take your own advice, because you are the only person in this thread who is trying to belittle, or put any other users down. On a side note: Helping somebody better understand the fine lines and grey area of this topic as outlined in the blackhat activity page, is in no way putting the user down. If I were trying to be an asshole I would just report posts, instead of trying to help. What I did is in fact the complete opposite of what you claim. God knows my site knowledge can still increase in some areas, look at my own warning level! I am not judging anybody or stating what I think is right or wrong, I am just stating my opinion, and trying to help the user, in case he continued to speak on the topic and possibly brought upon himself to cross that line in to breaking the rules as outlined in the Help Docs.
