A suggestion to Popularity Report System - AlibabaMarket - May 22, 2019
This is just my opinion if it can be considered in anytime , i stand to be corrected too.
i can see a lot of members abusing the popularity report system because you can give a popularity report for absolutely no honest reason or for the fun of it.
my suggestion sis that when anyone gives a popularity reports it should have a thread tag or comment tag
so there would be a reason for the rep. the receiver also will know why he or she got whatever rep they got.
for instance..almost all the rep i got i do not know why and i couldn't see any valuable reason for it.
i hope this comes to reality some day.,

We got rid of custom reasons to prevent abuse. That decision did its job perfectly. I don't get why you're complaining, you just aren't favorite among those that gave you negative rating.
PM them and ask for a reason.

this popularity rep , people mistake it for reputation for trust and dealings.
i am not really saying there should be a custom reason but the reputation should not be done from profile but from threads or comment , so if anyone gives a rep that doesn't have any meaningful reference it will be removed. i also got another -3 for just making this thread to have more understanding of this issues.
at the moment the rep system is really abused.

I would love to be able to OPTIONALLY specify a post or thread when repping. That's my only complaint with canned reputation.

that is exactly all i am trying to say. if you + rep me i should be able to know the reason, if you -rep me i can also be able to know the reason too.
this way no one gets whatever rep they got for no reason.

If you were a user here before they split the original rep system into today's B rating and popularity, then you would realize that this rep system isn't as abused as the original system.
The original system had custom messages and users heavily relied on your reputation to deal in the marketplace. Of course you would still get those random negatives, but it would affect you way more than getting a random negative with the popularity system.
On a side note, having the option to reference a thread or post in a rating would be a nice feature to have. Only seen it being used by staff, not sure if mentors can use it.

Popularity and b-rating is different for a reason. Staff has done a great job with this system imo

People are still abusing that system. Some ubers are -ve rating without any reason and if you pm the to ask the reason. they dont even reply and they only give -ve rep to those who are not uber/l33t because they cant give -ve back. this popularity system is of no use because people are abusing it. i suggest admins to remove it completely.

HF use to allow custom comments when it was called the “reputation” system. It’s since been changed to “popularity” and all ratings were removed and the rules around the system changed. It’s true; a member can indeed leave a popularity for pretty much any reason they desire. If they want to leave a custom message on your profile then they can send you Bytes with a custom message attached.
We did have post/thread attaching enabled for popularity but we disabled it because the forum software we use allows for multiple popularity points to be given between two members as long as they have more points. So I would need to change that functionality before we allow attaching posts to popularity again.

There's no such thing as abuse. You just aren't "popular" in that user's mind, they don't need a reason to give you a negative popularity. Hence the word, popularity.

All you can do is wait til you're upgraded then go back and neg them back ;)

Do you mean that only upgraded members are popular here ? and what about the white members ? who spend there money buying stuff here, spending there time on this forum learning things. White members are the reason this forum is popular since the beginning.
Better i chose not to upgrade. Because , If i upgrade, i know they will remove there -ve's, but it will not solve the concept of popularity system .
The Popularity system is just useless on HF & its just a waste of space on the internet.
