Apple Mac laptop? - Zamper - Jun 14, 2019 I'm going to travel to Argentina soon and I need to get a laptop to keep working online. I was wondering what laptop should I get. It would be mainly for work, browsing, accessing to remote desktop (VPS) , listening music and such... Budget is : $2000 USD What would you recommend me to buy and why? I also sometimes like to play Steam games or Smite/League of legends, these games would be compatible with the MAC or I would be fucked? Thanks! RE: Apple Mac laptop? - webdev77 - Jun 14, 2019 The newer Macbooks are not all that great for gaming because their CPUs tend to thermal throttle and all of Apple's "fixes" involve patches to Mac OS instead of issuing a firmware update. If you then also have Windows installed in Parallels or boot camp (a requirement for most games), performance in Windows or other OS tends to be up to 20% less because the hardware gets too hot. On the absolute newest series of Macbook Pros available, Apple is undervolting the CPUs to reduce thermal problems. However, this again only applies in Mac OS because they didn't do a proper firmware update. TL,DR; Apple's newer macbook pros are really only good for running Mac OS. If you want performance to run non-Mac OS applications, you should probably get something else. Also I would recommend this video if you are dead set on buying a macbook. These are the best recommendations available that I've seen so far. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xFIVZYevfGU RE: Apple Mac laptop? - Deany - Jun 14, 2019 It all comes down to literal personal preference. Try it before you buy it at the apple store/or any reseller etc. If you like the keyboard or can tolerate it, get it. I'm personally using a 2017 Air because I prefer the older style keyboard layout, and need my ports without that stupid dongle. |
