Computer running slow - fbg - Jul 16, 2019 Just dusted off an old PC I had laying around and set it up. The specs are decent from what I remember even though it's a little dated. It has Windows 10 but it has just been running kinda slow. I was wondering if there was a software solution for this. Something free preferably RE: Computer running slow - Gunz - Jul 16, 2019 (Jul 16, 2019 08:09 AM)fbgkyle Wrote: Just dusted off an old PC I had laying around and set it up. I know Im not much help but be careful going this route because free and software solutions tend to cause these issues. They are often bundled. RE: Computer running slow - EliteTM - Jul 16, 2019 Check how much free hard drive space you have. Speaking of hard drive. Try going to an SSD. Chances are its probably just the hard drive being slow. Check startup programs and services. Remove any junkware/unused programs you might have installed. Make sure the computer is on High Performance in power plan. Delete %temp% files. Change Windows 10 Visual Effects for best performance. Check how much resources is being used in Task Manager. I'm almost certain its probably your hard drive(s) and/or memory being maxed out (i.e pinned at 100%). Besides CCleaner. I wouldn't trust any other programs. I have used Clean UP! by Steven Gould and find it great to clean up files too. ^ steps are accurate on trying to increase computer performance. You can try and run a disk defragment too to optimize drives. Switching to an SSD will probably be an overall good solution than using your current harddrive. Within Task manager you can also see what resources are using up the most resources and you can go from there too. Clean up programs you dont use, or are running unnecessarily in the background |
