Did you ever tried with Evasi0n exploit?
It's compatible with iOS versions from 6.0 to 6.1.2, it's untethered version.

Switched to an ipod touch 5th gen, 9.3.5 jailbroken now I've done 4th gen.
Know much on this version cydia / cydia apps?
