Is IRC really still popular for botnets? I can understand why, being simple and so on, but is it true? Is it still popular? If not, what is more popular?

No one really uses irc nets these days. They are usually easier to detect and very good at storing data when compared to a http net.

Irc was gen 1, p2p was gen 2 and http are considered gen 3 because irc and p2p have cons there slow and they don’t always work in all environments, DNS is considered gen 4 but those nets aren’t that common.
