Is a full-stack web development course without PHP worth it? - craigOwnsYou - Sep 1, 2019 The reason I ask is the full-stack web development course I am taking doesn’t use PHP. It uses JS frameworks to achieve full stack. Is that any better or worse to start with for learning if my goal is to become an ethical hacker after I make full stack web apps? Obviously, I need to learn PHP too, but is it worth it to start a web development course first that doesn't use PHP? At what point should I start learning a new framework with PHP? Thanks. It looks like a good course but I just am wondering if you guys agree with it as an intro course. It's the full stack web dev course on Udemy (warez disallowed) by Angela Yu. EDIT: I want to learn web frameworks that help me get the prerequisites for web hacking. RE: Is a full-stack web development course without PHP worth it? - YouthInAsia - Sep 2, 2019 PHP is redundant nowadays. You can achieve everything with Javascript. RE: Is a full-stack web development course without PHP worth it? - tweety - Sep 2, 2019 php is basically a baby boomer stick to node/asp/phython/react/vue/anything not php RE: Is a full-stack web development course without PHP worth it? - sdk - Sep 2, 2019 This thread makes me so happy... Yes NodeJS all day man, I'd say 100000000% worth it. NodeJS is growing @ an astronomical rate honestly. Even Typescript is being used all over. Also once I learned to be a full-stack with Node I got my two best jobs I've ever had. RE: Is a full-stack web development course without PHP worth it? - Galaxias - Sep 2, 2019 Realistically you do not need to know PHP to be able to become a well rounded web developer with knowledge in both front-end and back-end. Most of the things you can do now can be done after learning the fundamentals of HTML, CSS and JS then move into learning a more current framework like NodeJS or Ruby, or whatever it is that you prefer. Although PHP can surely help you if you may end up working with very old-school tech. RE: Is a full-stack web development course without PHP worth it? - eXero - Sep 2, 2019 You don't need PHP. Full-stack can include HTML/CSS and Angular or React. RE: Is a full-stack web development course without PHP worth it? - pointandlaugh - Sep 2, 2019 Legacy applications still use PHP. I'm working on an old Drupal site right now for a client, but in saying that if you can understand Algol-style languages like C or Java you'll pick up PHP quick enough. If you're fresh off the boat it doesn't really matter what language you learn first because the concepts are more important at that point. You have to walk before you can sprint typescript can easily overwhelm people with lintkng, configs and build errors RE: Is a full-stack web development course without PHP worth it? - Vossen - Sep 4, 2019 I've been using PHP my whole life long basically, working on an enterprise-grade application since about a year now and with every day passed I regret using PHP more and more. PHP is fun and games for small applications. But at some point PHP simply attracts bad programming style, and bad programming style inevitably leads to you not understanding your own code anymore, no matter how good of a PHP programmer you are. PHP is simply missing modern technologies like asynchronicity etc. We'll probably rewrite the whole thing next year in Node. Doesn't make any sense to build upon our current codebase. As little as I want to say so, PHP is deprecated and other technologies like Node will definitely take its spot in the future. However, PHP has one big advantage - it's extremely easy to learn if you have a basic background in similar programming languages like C# or Java. So if you do have a background there it definitely shouldn't be a problem for you to learn PHP as well, even if you might not use it at all anymore in the future. RE: Is a full-stack web development course without PHP worth it? - gogreendv - Sep 5, 2019 I know very well the PHP language. I am writing a book on the PHP language. If it is done, I want to give you the first time. Thank you! PHP is a standard in back end. there's others but if you read any tutorial or any discussion on back end web development they always talk about PHP. I personally don't think it matters what you learn as long you know the difference between front end crap and back end crap and how they work and communicate to make things dynamic. Um, ok. I wasn't saying this course was a web hacking course. I was asking if it gave the web development knowledge required to understanding web hacking when I learn it after the course. I also know that in order to understand web hacking you have to be able to program full-stack web apps. I don't know what the truth value is to anything else you are talking about. |
