A small gesture - SIM-1729678 - Sep 6, 2019 So, this morning I was driving to work and I gave someone right of way where they don't have any. Where I live, it's very normal and polite to put your hand up as a 'thank you' gesture. It always makes me happy for some reason to see people actually thanking you for something you did, even if it's something very small like giving right of way. Sadly it has come to my attention that people don't even bother 'thanking' you anymore. I feel like those people think it's normal for other people to be nice to them or something... How do you feel about this? and do you recognize yourself in a similar situation? RE: A small gesture - Eagle 95 - Sep 6, 2019 I always turn on hazard lights as a thank you note. Not really a hand type of guy. :P RE: A small gesture - SUI-3183372 - Sep 6, 2019 Everytime I'm nice to someone while I drive it backfires. Everyone else sucks, fuckem. RE: A small gesture - Crimin4L - Sep 6, 2019 Happens everyday with me in jersey, but if they want to be ignorant i’ll be an asshole about it; For instance: I hold the door for people all the time and sometimes i don’t even get a thank you, so i’ll just say real loud and ignorant “Your Welcome” and some people look back at me like i’m in the wrong. Like come tf back over here so i can slam this door in your face you pos RE: A small gesture - SIM-1729678 - Sep 6, 2019 (Sep 6, 2019 12:35 AM)Crimin4L Wrote: Happens everyday with me in jersey, but if they want to be ignorant i’ll be an asshole about it; For instance: I hold the door for people all the time and sometimes i don’t even get a thank you, so i’ll just say real loud and ignorant “Your Welcome” and some people look back at me like i’m in the wrong. I don't care if you're next to me or behind me, I will break my back just to acknowledge their niceness. I expect the same, but it doesn't get to me if they don't wave. I generally just assume they're grateful, especially if there is a massive line of cars. Like you wanna test me? I can be 10x worse than you buddy; wrong move. RE: A small gesture - DNA - Sep 6, 2019 Don't come to Australia if you want polite conversation lmao RE: A small gesture - Cooligan - Sep 6, 2019 (Sep 6, 2019 12:25 AM)Eagle 95 Wrote: I always turn on hazard lights as a thank you note. Ever since, I've used it to say thank you once I'm in front of someone, and if I'm behind, I'll just quickly flash my headlights. It's actually awesome seeing someone flash their hazards back at you, it's like "oh you know that too?!" 🤣 (Sep 6, 2019 12:29 AM)ScreemS Wrote: I always feel like the hazard lights could give too much of a "watch out" or "Warning" feel. That's why you only allow them to flash twice for the universal "thank-you". 😉 Same with flashing your headlights, once or twice is all you need to let someone know you're thankful. When learning to drive here, they tell you to never do that. Of course, ever knows that it's a "warning" or "Thank you". But it's not allowed here. A lot of things are "not allowed" here on the roads in the US, however most of us just disregard them lol. Things like speed limits, no lane switching zones, "30mph because you're in a residential but you're clearly on a 4 lane mini highway with 2 houses on either side that are fenced in", yeah we typically disregard those. 🤣 RE: A small gesture - SIM-1729678 - Sep 6, 2019 (Sep 6, 2019 01:38 AM)Cooligan Wrote: Yeah I hear you. 🤣 🤣 When I was driving around in the US, I really had to adjust to the driving style. Took me a few days. RE: A small gesture - Rigel - Sep 6, 2019 I make a point to be appreciative simply because I’m not appreciated enough. And it sucks to feel that way so I make an extra effort to say thank you so other don’t. |
