What was your favourite OS and why? - DNA - Sep 29, 2019

My favourite was Windows XP particularly SP3 mainly because of nostalgic reasons

Now my favourite is Ubuntu 16.04, what's your fav OS?

I remember when we first used PCs in school, back when we had to use a dot matrix printer 😏

XP, Vista, and 8.1 are my personal favourites for various reasons.
I used both XP and Vista while growing up. XP on my parents desktop and Vista when I got my first laptop.
I then used 7 when I learned how to install an operating system.
8.1 is my favourite because it is the fastest Windows operating system no doubt. Works really well, even on potato systems and HDDs, something I cannot say about 10 unfortunately.
Although I am using 10 at the moment just because there isn't too much reason to use 8.1 over 10, it has DX12, my hardware doesn't officially support anything older and 10 in general feels really nice to use :) And it's well optimised if you have decent enough hardware and an SSD.

Windows 10 is the best OS imo.

It is really good and stable now.

Honestly im a huge apple fanboy. However i have to admit XP and win7 where great, after that windows turned to shit. And i also have to admit for some usecases linux is really the only way to go.

Damn straight, Vista was the road that should never have been travelled, but you knew it was going even more downhill after Microsoft started Windows 10.

Here is why Windows 10 is sh!t imho

They completely screwed up the development process and now we are their testers...

But everyone has their weapon of choice and if they like Windows 10, they like it, it's not my opinion that should change that.

As for Linux Operating Systems, they're amazing for Web Security and hosting which is why approximately 70% of web servers are running Linux.

I've never found Linux based systems to be good for personal usage unless you value your privacy.

I think for most day to day users linux is just too much of a hassle, most normal users just dont wanna be messing around on a terminal to accomplish simple tasks, they just wanna get the job done with a nice gui and a click on a button. But i agree, for privacy and security linux is just way superior. I feel osx while being unix based is a good middle way. Having a well functioning system which is decently secure out of the box. But linux will always remain, no doubt. Alotta use cases, like hosting where its just totally superior, more stable etc which is surely not gonna replaced by OSX or Windows any time soon.
