There's a tiny button you can find on the the back or bellow your router , use a needle in order to press it and hold it down for a little while , the router should then restore its factory settings

Now, first step would be to see what type of security they are running (WEP, WPA, WPA2..etc).
an easy airodump-ng (interface) command on kali Linux will give us that information quickly
The next step would be to see what router they are using. Below is a nice and easy tutorial you can follow in order to do that

There are a number of powerful automated tools that can get the job done... why work hard? its 2019
learn how to use wifite and/or airgeddon for starters. If the target AP is using WEP then youll probably get the creds in minutes. If they are using WPA2 then youll probably need to capture a handshake when there is a client online. Wifite can do this for you but make sure there is a client or two online when you do this. Once you get the handshake you can crack it yourself if you have decent computing power and learn how to use hashcat, or you can submit the handshake to the HF hash cracking services here. They will do it for you.

Or you could sneek up to your neighbors front window ... er i mean your front window ;) , and see if you can see the back of the router (dont know why so many people put their router there)

That's ridiculous, probably better reception than in my attic though..
On topic:
First try all the default passwords, if it is your own just reset the router...
If it's your neighbours, go and bruteforce it. There's tons of tuts on HF about this.
