Someone I know closely online made suicidal threats

Am I in the wrong for contracting the authorities to passing this information forward, or was it the right thing to do?

If you feel the threat is credible and not a joke, which I assume you do know their way of being, then yes I would have contacted the authorities.

I would rather be safe than sorry.
