hdd, ssd or cloud storage? - IG Growth - Dec 2, 2019

I been looking to get an external hard drive, but im worried about it breaking down randomly with all my files in it whats more reliable?

Ive been looking at the WD My Passport 2TB USB Portable External Hard Drive, or Samsung SSD 1tb, or 2 TB Google Drive $14 a month

What do you guys use?

You should get a 2 x 7200 RPM 2 TB NAS Storage w/ Mirror RAID backups. Never worry about your data again!

I have my important things backed up on cloud or multiple drives.
My main external HD is a relatively cheap one but isn't my stand alone back up.

Cloud for cold storage (not accessing often like pictures)

SSD for rest

2tb wd black or even look into raid technology if your looking at a large data backup solutions

I'd recommend cloud storage if you're looking for large size for cheap.

If 1-2tb is good for you, get an SSD.

I suggest getting SSD unless you want pure storage. If you want pure storage, any SATA or 1-2TB external should be fine. Check out amazon.

I like SSDs more than other forms of storage.

If you trust your data with Google then that is the safest route. They do have yearly plans last I remembered.

Now if you want to store the files yourself then I would say go with an actual hard drive if you are going to be writing/rewriting a lot, and personally I prefer WD I never actually had a WD product fail on me.

If you don't plan to write/rewrite too frequently then go with a SSD.

HDD can in theory write/rewrite infinite amount of times, but it has moving parts which can fail.
SSD cannot write/rewrite an infinite amount of times but does not have moving parts which can fail.

So I guess just base it on your specific needs.

HDD/SSD NAS with Mirroring.

Good way.
Google can delete your account any time, no appeal.

That's true. I like hardware because of this.

I use rClone with google drive. All file uploads are encrypted so google don't snoop.
