Christmas Present Dilemma! - Life - Dec 6, 2019

Hey all,

My partner wants to get me a christmas gift and out of the 3 choices there are.

1. Electric Guitar + Rocksmith for PS4
2. Graphics Card... Probably a 2060 Super
3. A compact camera. $600 AUD range..

What would you guys want and why? I am passionate about gaming but it isnt productive. where as I both want to learn guitar and learn photography aswell.

Why's that? Any reasons? I am trying to get swayed towards one but I needs pros for all of them.
My main benefit for the camera is the use of family gatherings and also potential to learn photography as it would be good enough to get awesome photos and video on. May also help with future business?

You can use the camera anywhere. To make amazing memories and yes you can use it for business as well. Not in future, you can use it from the moment that you bought it. It has many websites for stock images that you can sell images.

I'd go for the graphics cards. You can always play some games when you're stressed and I doubt you'd be more up to going out to take photos in the cold winter instead.

Would you recommend any cameras to start with? $600 AUD or less? preferably the ability to shoot video in 4K 60fps + great photo quality.
Obviously with a strict budget like that I would be amazed if a camera can do that for that cheap

I'd go for the camera too ! You can learn quickly and it's definitely becoming a really essential skill to take good photos. Plus, you can take nice photos of you and your partner :)
Playing the guitar is really cool and old school too, but leave it for when you don't have a partner !

I'd recommend a SONY RX100 VI because it has high image quality + 4K videos. It's about 600/700 pounds so might be a lil out of your 600 AUD budget but it might be worth to pitch in your partner's gift to get a really good camera.

Otherwise PANASONIC TZ95 has good 4K videos too but not the best photos, but it's definitely cheaper - around 350 pounds.

1. Canon PowerShot SX420
2. Canon PowerShot SX530

You can read first the reviews and the specifications and to decide which one will be ok for you. Later i will give more suggestions.

Brother it all depends on what you think you'll enjoy the most or get the best value out of. I personally really like computers, so I'd go with the graphics card. Just remember, if you don't game a ton or can run most games fine, then no reason for number 2. If you enjoy guitar a lot/wanna make music and playing console in the spare time than you'd go with 1.

Just think about what you'll use the most

I would take the 2060 Super graphic card.

RE: Christmas Present Dilemma! - Xen - Dec 6, 2019

The 2060 Super is a great card for the price and definitely worth it. I wouldn't know what to look for in terms of cameras at your price point (mainly because I don't know the currency very well) but a camera would be another great choice because of the memories you can make. The possibility there is endless. Most cameras at that price are all similar, just look at brands such as Sony and Canon.

I could use a new pc right now

RE: Christmas Present Dilemma! - tripleseven - Dec 6, 2019

I would get the camera. But I would get a DLSR instead. One that allows raw images to get you started working with Lightroom, you'll learn way more as a photographer then if you'd get a camera that doesn't allow for raw images.
