And yes I know the person who "made" the format says its jif but it still sounds retarded

I have a coworker who says that all the time. Ive started to use "Graphics Interchange Formats" to them and it seems to be pissing them off, just the right amount lol

Who cares what gif stands for? Only designers and tech geeks. The rest of the people just post them on facebook. You can't really force people to pronounce it one way or another, they pronounce it in whatever way they like. And most of them pronounce it jif. There, that is how you figure out how something is pronounced, you check how most people pronounce it.

Wrong. Basically regardless of who you poll and what country, GIF is the most common pronunciation.

GIF, as in Gift, sounds much better IMO. And no-one refers to them as JIFs even if it is technically correct.

agreed. It sounds like they are mentioning the peanut butter whenever I hear jif. Idk it just sounds super cringey. Although apparently the creator said its pronounced jif, not sure where I heard this. Maybe someone can confirm?
