Chipotle fined $1.3 Million - Vеrt - Jan 28, 2020 Source Quote:The fine detailed that Chipotle had employees under the age of 18 working past midnight and for more than 48 hours a week. Teenagers told investigators their hours of work were so long that it was preventing them from keeping up with their schoolwork. The company also regularly hired minors without work permits. Never expected to hear something along these lines. Kind of crazy, normally companies go so far out of their way just to not hire minors, let along have to pay them overtime for over 40 hours a week. I personally worked way past 40 hours a week as a minor, but I've never had to work past midnight. I completely understand it though, but I feel like if someone wants to work past 40 hours, they should be able to request it. Not be forced to do it. What do you guys think about this? RE: Chipotle fined $1.3 Million - Citoa - Jan 28, 2020 You would be surprised at how many minors work way over 40 hours. I was a sports animator this past summer in a beach hotel and there were a lot of 16 and 17 year olds that were working as animators, barmen, cleaning staff, waiters. And it was known that everyone was working about 10 hours a day with only one day off in a week. Sometimes they don't even take the day off because they need the extra money paid for that day. Everyone said that their contract stated only 8 hours of work, but it was known to everyone that if they didn't do as they are told they will be fired. So even when someone has finished his shift they still had to follow orders. The hotel that I worked in is a well known chain in my country. At the same time though, I dont think chipotle could be blamed for it. Like if you dont wanna work that much quit the damn job. Where I live its pretty hard to find jobs that offer alot of hours like chipotle does lol. It's easy to say no, they can't fire you or anything because they're not allowed to do it in the first place. RE: Chipotle fined $1.3 Million - rsx - Jan 28, 2020 They break the law all the time.
