Windows 7 Source Code? - Boil - Jan 28, 2020 Microsoft was urgued to release their source code for Windows 7 since it's been phased out and the support isn't active. Link to that here: https://www.zdnet.com/article/microsoft-urged-open-source-windows-7-to-undo-past-wrongs/ RE: Windows 7 Source Code? - Django - Jan 28, 2020 Holy shit! That's amazing, I can't wait till someone forks it so I can switch back over from this Windows 10 GARBAGE. The only reason I've kept Windows is cus I want to be able to play games/use FL Studio, but you can't on Unix based systems for the most part. Most problems arise when you use a potato for a PC. RE: Windows 7 Source Code? - normaldeve - Jan 28, 2020 so win 7 will become cleaned of spying features by some skilled enthusiast and released online for free? I think Microsoft themselves is going to release the source code. Or at least that's what my news source says. As long as you have a “Good” PC it’s very nice OS. RE: Windows 7 Source Code? - Cooligan - Jan 28, 2020 Something tells me Microsoft isn't about to release a source code for one of their most successful OS's. Gotta remember, the business world is just like politics, just because a "statement" has been made about it doesn't make it true. It's only true once it's done, and to me if Microsoft has said anything on it or plans to, it'll just be to silence the hail of questions they'll face from enthusiasts with a temporary "yes it's in the works" type of announcement. Win7 is one of their babies, just don't see them giving up the rights that easily. Though I could be totally wrong. RE: Windows 7 Source Code? - Rsynced - Jan 28, 2020 That would be great if they release it. I look forward to this happening! Just showing others what I read and what they might do. After all it is a tech like forum. RE: Windows 7 Source Code? - AmazingLicense - Jan 29, 2020 I don't see how open sourcing Win7 is in Microsoft's interest. I don't think they'll do it. People want, but they won't. This is how it works... RE: Windows 7 Source Code? - Takehito Morokuzu - Jan 29, 2020 (Jan 28, 2020 06:42 PM)Nuworld Wrote: Correct: Windows 10 words just fine. This is what I found you need for windows 10 to run smoothly: One of the faster Core 2 duo or better (e8400 for example works well) quad core is better but dual core is usable Fairly modern graphics. Gt 710 works really well for old computers like LGA 775 age, as GMA graphics from over a decade ago can't really run Windows 10 in a usable state 2gb ram will work but most of it will be used in idle. If you only use it for basic use like office it will work but not ideal. 4gb is what you want as a minimum SSD. Windows 10 is borderline useless on a hdd, especially if it's a laptop hdd or just a very old one. Any old ssd will work, although one with dram cache from someone like integral works really well (integral have the best value 240gb ssds, at least in my area) That's it really, if you meet those requirements you are good to go. If you need to upgrade its usually really cheap to meet these requirements and make use of your old PC RE: Windows 7 Source Code? - spiral - Jan 29, 2020 I highly doubt they will open source win 7, it really is not in Microsoft’s best interest. RE: Windows 7 Source Code? - SexMe - Jan 29, 2020 this will never happen due to the security issues that would arise in future OS versions of windows as every new OS released is basically a copy of a previous version so no way they would risk the OS and become open to Vulns they not even aware of. As would be zero point for them to have a bounty program. Releasing source of program doesnt equal to making the program open source. Legally, you will probably only be allowed to peek at it or make changed only for your own use, but you wont be able to distribute it even for free (legally). Of course it will probably get edited and distributed anyway RE: Windows 7 Source Code? - Last_viking - Jan 29, 2020 Windows source code would be very beneficial |
