Can an user say "stop posting here or I will negative rep you?" - Perileos - Feb 28, 2020
As the title indicates.
I was having a discussing with an user, whom then threatened to negative rep me if I continued.
Is this acceptable by the rules?

You selectively took out the part regarding animal testing for medical reasons; can't expect me to stop talking about it when you started the discussion. Also, it is related to the subject.
Then a bit further you threatened me to stop talking or you would negative rep me. You have no authority over me, you can not tell me what I should or shouldn't do, either with that negative reputation you gave me. You're here talking about me trying to force my opinions onto you, we were merely having a discussion about the ethical believes behind animal testing (a topic you selective choose) and suddenly you are out threatening.
I did not wish to tag you or quote you in this thread because I do not want to cause useless arguments or fights.

Seems fine to me. Popularity is based on how other's feel about you, and this user has expressed they feel negatively towards you. The manner in which is was done is a bit iffy, trying to steer the conversation to their liking with popularity, but in the grand scheme of things this is so minor that who the hell cares? Keep posting how you'd like to knowing that once you get that -3 there literally isn't a single thing more that this member can do to you.
However, now that you've made this topic, there's a decent possibility that you get a bunch of HF crusaders coming onto this thread also giving you -3's because they have nothing better to do with their time than act like they're superior to you.

"1. Members are not allowed to harass or threaten other members."
That is why I posted this.

If you read the Help Docs for the Popularity system, HF considers popularity given to be pretty much abuse free: https://hackforums.net/misc.php?action=help&hid=20
If the member at question were to start a giveaway saying "To enter my giveaway, go and give Perileos a -3" then that could constitute harassment, but his singular -3 against you isn't going to be viewed as such. Harassment here is more along the lines of continuously harassing you, following you around, getting others to gang up on you, and such. A singular event like this is fine.

Technically he can't but this is something so small I don't think it's worth enforcing. What we enforce when it comes to harassing with popularity is situation like BV1 mentioned. You two got into an argument and obviously disagreed.
I gave you +5 and lets leave it at that.
