Movie site laws? - Wakeandbake - Mar 8, 2020 I'm wanting to make a movie site using wordpress, I will not actually host the movies on a VPS I'll directly link the movies like embedded. Will this get me into trouble or will I be good? RE: Movie site laws? - de_g3ntl3m4n - Mar 8, 2020 id say look at some movie sites and see their disclamer lists and other types of info that they use to protect themselves - like the DCMA i think - might be wrong RE: Movie site laws? - Wakeandbake - Mar 8, 2020 (Mar 8, 2020 07:11 AM)de_g3ntl3m4n Wrote: id say look at some movie sites and see their disclamer lists and other types of info that they use to protect themselves - like the DCMA i think - might be wrong Disclaimer: This site does not store any files on its server. All contents are provided by non-affiliated third parties I do see this disclaimer on most movie sites I use, which is what I'm trying to say. If I use third party embedded links I should be fine. RE: Movie site laws? - Charmz- - Mar 8, 2020 I don't think there's anything illegal about it unless you are hosting the files. I would add a disclaimer like Wakeandbake said. RE: Movie site laws? - Perileos - Mar 8, 2020 You will be a facilitator and therefore, be liable for damages. However, you will probably receive a warning to cease and desist, if you refuse they might use the court to shut you down. It depends on where your site is hosted at. A disclaimer does not make it suddenly legal. I can't go around killing someone and say I had a disclaimer. So Phantomman55 is right, you need a license otherwise it is illegal. The license isn't cheap and every movie you want to show on your site will need a new license. RE: Movie site laws? - Geralt - Mar 8, 2020 Yes, it's illegal, get an offshore hosting and you'll be fine. There is hundreds of movie sites, they won't even notice you unless you are on the first page of google making 10k+ per month. Microsoft got to sue their ass good in finland. they filed charges in finland to allow them to take them to british courts and sue them for international copyright, trademark infringements and they won the case. You wrote 3 paragraphs to confirm what I said in my first sentence - it's illegal. When I said "you'll be fine" I was referring to him covering his tracks and identity, not the legality of this situation. |
