Online Status... - King - Apr 14, 2020
Can we go back to the 5 mins online status again?
I mean 30 mins (I'm not sure if it's correct) is not great to be honest especially now that we don't have the online list anymore at the bottom of the main page?
What do you guys think?

I think this would be great. I don't like sitting around waiting for a reply when the user is actually offline, but it doesn't say so on their profile until 30 minutes later. It will save a lot of time.

I know... But the main purpose (I assume) of extending the duration from 5 minutes to 30 minutes was to make that list look larger when it was available on the main page but since it's not available anymore, I don't think there is a reason for this extension anymore.

I think he means to change the status to "offline" once it's passed the 5-minute mark.
I understand where he's coming from. I thought I was the only one annoyed by it.

Same concept though. You are already on their profile looking to see if they are online. Look one more inch to the right to see the time. It's right there. 🤯

The time doesn't get updated though. For example, if I leave my PC right now, it's going to say I'm still posting/viewing this thread for the next 30 minutes. The time won't update.
It would be ideal if it put my status to "offline" after 5 minutes of being idle.

It won't update after 30 minutes or 5 minutes regardless unless you refresh the page. Almost all of HF you need to refresh the page to see new content. The exception to that are new features (convo and notify).
EDIT: And you are absolutely correct... the time won't change. So if it is 12:30 and the time you see is 12:10... guess how long they haven't been active? 20 minutes.

It doesn't update... For instance, if I post now and leave my PC, and you go to my profile, and you keep refreshing for 30 minutes, you'll keep seeing that I'm reading this thread.

It's not a major problem but it really annoys me and apparently it annoys others as well. If he's away for more than 5 mins, technically he's offline.
