Generally, I'm hesitant as to receiving files over skype, always double-check extension, and be especially careful if it's a .exe file. You can also possibly test it on a Virtual Machine if you're that worried.
But, if it's .pptx , I'm sure it's safe, at least from my understanding, malware can't be hidden in a Microsoft presentation.

Well, skype isn't the problem at all, those files could come from any possible way it would be the same. The danger could be hidden in a macro in the doc

.pptx is safe to my knowledge. However, Microsoft word has an exploit that uses macros in a .doc or .docx file to drop a virus. I would still be careful. You could upload it on VirusTotal, and run it in a sandbox to see if it drops any files. I am sure that if you need help analyzing a file someone here would be glad to help you.

Skype itself isn't the problem, although I would recommend you stop using it as it is a Micro$oft product. Other than that, always be careful of files you don't trust; never enable macros when asked for, and alternatively, you could open them in a virtual machine or on an old device with no data and or internet connection.
