Webserver testing real traffic - DrDrill - May 25, 2020

Hi,

sorry if I opened this thread in the wrong section, just couldn't find any suitable.

So I have a webserver with an online shop which runs good so far, but from time to time when we run a paid promotion (Twitch, IG, FB...) we get peaks of about 30k users at once. The problem is that the site overloads and many users cannot access (bad because we paid for the promotion)...

Now we moved to another hosting provider and he claims that it can easily handle about 40k users at once (i am a bit curious about this!)
We tested it with loader.io and other tools that the provider demonstrated in a live session. All looked good at the begining, but then after some minutes the requests ended in 4XX and 5XX errors, probably due to cloudflare's load balancing / dos protection?

I know that SST is not allowed anymore, but I need some way to test the website with at least 10k users at once, to simulate real HTTPS traffic with different IP addresses.
Loader.io uses a single IP and I guess something is blocking it after X requests. Is there a way to test the webserver before we run another promotion so it can handle all requests?

I can share a technical drawing of the infrastructure of the webserver setup if you need it.

Hope somebody can help me. 😧

Thanks and regards,
DrDrill

Have you tried using something like locust?

RE: Webserver testing real traffic - DrDrill - May 26, 2020

Yeah, I tried locust already, its good but as I said I m looking for some real traffic or maybe to capture the traffic with wireshark and replay it?

Thanks for your hint :)
