Screen flickering after enabling Virtual Super Resolution - .eXe - Jun 23, 2020

Specs:[b]
- MSI AMD RX 480
- Ryzen 5 2600
- 32GB Corsair Vengeance
- Gigabyte B450 D3SH Motherboard

I enabled Virtual Super Resolution to test out some games in it, but since enabling it I get graphical flickering whilst games/GPU heavy tasks are loading (take unigine engine benchmark for example). Once the game/benchmark has finished loading the flickering stops.

I have since disabled VSU and ran the applications at my native resolution but the issue persists.

I have also uninstalled the drivers in safe mode using DDU and reinstalled them. Same problem.

Occasionally the issue doesn't stop and I need to restart my PC.

Reimaging my machine to a state before I enabled VSU seems the only permanent fix, but I really don't want to reimage again this month.

I have also changed out the display cables.

So it didn't do it before you first set the Virtual Super Res?

After uninstalling drivers and reinstalling them did it still do this flicker or did you turn on the vsr and it started again?

AMD graphics cards can have dodgy flickers because of the drivers, I would suppose that you can try some older driver versions.

An RX 480 can't really handle 4K resolution anyways so there isn't much point of even trying to enable it. Just wipe the drivers clean, reinstall, and move forward.

Trying to scale 1440p to 1080p doesn't really net you any gain.

Thanks both. Yes it never happened before enabling VSU. As mentioned in the thread I have done a complete clean uninstall (with DDU in safe mode) of the drivers and reinstall. So far the only fix I've found is reimaging to a time before enabling VSU. It's frustrating that turning it off isn't working.

I reimaged. Fuck it, not worth it.
