Today I was down by the woods near where I live to collect wood and to check on some of the local wildlife as there's some newborn fawns that were straying and ending up in gardens only to get chased by dogs or whatever. I saw one fawn that was caught in some string tied to a tree, so I naturally go to remove it and set it free. The second it's free and runs off, some asshole came out of nowhere with a hunting rifle literally screaming about how I stole his kill. I explained calmly that it was a small fawn, that the mother would have been likely nearby looking for it, and that it's bad form to kill younglings and or mothers caring for them. This guy pokes me with his rifle a few times, I stay calm, but then raises it to my face. A brief scuffle happens, and then he threatens to kill me and says he'll find out where I live and shoot me through my windows... I've had threats before, but this has really put me on edge because he was clearly unhinged and crazy enough to point a loaded rifle at my head over freeing up a trapped fawn. I just don't know what to think right now.

Odds are he's just some hillbilly hothead who's gonna go stew over it, get shitfaced and forget. You did the right thing OP, I wouldn't worry about him but if it's a serious threat to you, contact someone about it.

I hope so man, I don't know why but this has really put me on edge and I've been in much scarier situations before. I just hope he gets help and doesn't actually take it out on me, he had that look in his eye that's freaked me out :( thank you!

I have a gun we keep near the bed just in case, but it's mostly to scare off bears lol. Thank you though bro, means a lot! I hope he forgets and go gets some help.

If I'm being 100% honest, there was three opportunities for me to grab it and disarm him (I've done basic training) but there was no way to tell he didn't have a hunting knife on his back or side and I could have been cut real bad before being able to get enough distance between us, so I had to just kinda wait for him to stop and back up. I'm still kinda shaking from the adrenaline, I hate it!

I'm aware of the emergency services, but we don't call them often around here, especially now while there's a pandemic and riots in nearby cities. I'd just be sat up all night waiting for them to come, say there's nothing they can do, and leave.

you hate the adrenaline from fighting? that shit is the best feeling hahaha, fighting (like boxing or combat sports or just random street fight/scuffle things) is always fun imo but less fun if they pull a weapon

It's more that I hate how long it lasts for, like I never notice it in the moment and the immediate rush does feel good, but it's the long ass period after like now :( it's been over an hour since, but I'm still quite tense thinking I should have done more or should have been more aware, I don't know man. I've had a gun pulled on me before a few years back, but this was just different because he clearly wasn't rational and that's what's freaking me out more than anything lol

Yeah I've not had a rifle pulled on me really ever that I remember lmao, a pistol before but that shit looked old as shit so idk, different environments in UK to wherever you are from I guess haha

I'm in the US bro, right out in the sticks too so it's kinda a self governed area where we don't get much if any trouble, but sometimes stuff like this happens. Yeah pistols are definitely still scary in the moment, but you're probably more likely to survive a close range pistol shot than a rifle, just be glad you don't got those floating around haha. Glad nothing happened to you with the pistol though, as far as I know!

It's always the weakest ones that have to rely on a weapon to get a point across lmao, glad he didn't use it on you bro! Yeah I think so man, just some asshole who hadn't had his moonshine for the day and was getting cranky lol

Pistol vs. rifle makes very little difference at point blank range since dead is still dead. Don't mess with crazy people. Once you are sure you aren't about to be shot on the spot, you put as much distance between yourself and the crazy as you can as quick as possible.
Clearly a terrible hunter if he was going after a fawn at all and especially one that was hardly able to move. Reporting him to the division of wildlife or whatever its called in your country generally results in revocation of hunting permits and hefty fines.
