What is the difference between port scanners? - N00b_n00b - Aug 24, 2020

Hello,
If a scanner like Nmap is good and complete then why other scanners like "Unicornscan", "netcat", "Angry IP Scanner" and... have been built?

Thank you.

Some scanners are used to be massive scanning, other ones are like small chisel to get more data as possible from a single target.

There is almost always more softwares doing the same stuff in different ways.

Anyway Netcat has a lot of uses which aren’t even close to Nmap. I wouldn’t consider them similar.

I don’t use the other 2 you mentioned cause I built my own multithreading scanner software trough python Nmap and dirbuster

Just use nmap, you don't need to fuss around with other people's attempts at making one. If someone has a tool, people are going to make different versions. Doesn't mean you should ever use them.
