How do I remote shutdown a computer? - skepp4rn - Sep 11, 2020

Hey everyone! My question is if someone on here knows how to remotely shut down a computer that is connected to the same network as me? I am on mac and I've tried the "sudo shutdown -h (IPadress) now" and it only says bad time format. I've also tried it on windows. I opened cmd and typed "shutdown -i" to bring up the window where I can add a computer with the ip adress but once I execute it just says "can't connect to the registry". Please help me

Why do you think that unix'es 'shutdown' can operate with remote host? Especially if it running Windows (which I assume is).

"Remote Registry" service must be running on remote machine.

Is there anyway to shutdown another pc without having to access the computer and making sure remote registry is running?

Try 'psshutdown' from Sysinternals.

To accomplish the goal of controlling a computer at all you need access to a remote shell. Basically you get access to their CMD/terminal remotely. I recommend looking up an introduction to metasploit and download Armitage.
