Why are visual basic programmers laughed at by other programmers? - ethelooking - Oct 4, 2020 I don't think a programming language is born - for no good reason. I hope that is true. can you give me the reason? RE: Why are visual basic programmers laughed at by other programmers? - Exalted - Oct 4, 2020 I didn't know they were? I develop in Visual Basic in my own time and for my job. Rather get laughed at than not make money I guess. Maybe just focus on our work first RE: Why are visual basic programmers laughed at by other programmers? - Exalted - Oct 4, 2020 (Oct 4, 2020 01:49 AM)ethelooking Wrote: right. Improve your skill, make money, and live life! sounds simple, but not easy to do. I will try harder. Thanks for your advice RE: Why are visual basic programmers laughed at by other programmers? - I cry blood - Oct 4, 2020 I've gotten mocked for writing in Visual Basic a few times. Mainly by people who have never written in it themselves. Maybe since the word basic is used, or maybe because other .net languages exist like C#. Hard to say really. I personally love it. Making sleek UIs, nice controls, etc. Don't be discouraged haha. RE: Why are visual basic programmers laughed at by other programmers? - Washi - Oct 4, 2020 Some of the reasons I have heard over the past years include:
Personally, I think VB.NET is a great language, and am very happy that I can write code in it. And even though I do not use VB.NET a lot anymore, to this day I still use the same principles that I have learnt while coding in VB.NET. I think that a lot of people are very religious about their choice of programming language. Everyone has their preferences for (a) certain language(s), but in my opinion a good programmer doesn't care that much about the language, and is able to switch and apply the same principles in any programming language of the same paradigm. RE: Why are visual basic programmers laughed at by other programmers? - iaminitforthememes - Oct 4, 2020 Another interesting point is that Visual Basic was (maybe still is) taught in some schools in countries which have mandatory computer science classes for elementary schools hence many people might recognize it as something designed "for children". I don't know why you would care about this though. The language may be considered legacy but imagine someone mentioning programming in COBOL just a year ago. Wouldn't you laugh your ass off? Well, not since Covid started and everybody suddenly realized how many society-critical systems still use COBOL (talking US here) for their underlying business logic. People often laugh at what they think is different from what they are doing. just focus on ourselves. good luck RE: Why are visual basic programmers laughed at by other programmers? - slaugtherman64bites - Oct 5, 2020 (Oct 4, 2020 01:36 AM)ethelooking Wrote: I don't think a programming language is born - for no good reason. it's because it's not a real programming language. It's more of a scripting and framework type of language geared to people don't know programming or don't really want to learn how to code. VB is good to make software that's already on the market but it' hard to create anything new. it's a good place to start but if you call yourself a programmer or a software engineer with only knowledge of the VB you will be laughed at. Funny meme. Straight from Wikipedia: Wikipedia Wrote:Visual Basic is a third-generation event-driven programming language from Microsoft known for its Component Object Model (COM) programming model first released in 1991 and declared legacy during 2008. Microsoft intended Visual Basic to be relatively easy to learn and use.[1][2] Visual Basic was derived from BASIC and enables the rapid application development (RAD) of graphical user interface (GUI) applications, access to databases using Data Access Objects, Remote Data Objects, or ActiveX Data Objects, and creation of ActiveX controls and objects. RE: Why are visual basic programmers laughed at by other programmers? - Starks - Oct 6, 2020 I guess it's because of its residue association to Microsoft and the fact that its basic connotes are simple and less. Further, earlier versions of the language had superfluous functions and commands, and it originated as a procedural language. If this is the ancestor of programming languages ... I should appreciate it instead of laughing ... thanks for your information RE: Why are visual basic programmers laughed at by other programmers? - masa - Oct 7, 2020 (Oct 5, 2020 09:33 AM)Washi Wrote: Funny meme. I believe they said that due to VBScript, it was pretty predominate up until give or take 2014~ if memory serves me correctly, yeah? Typically it was a skiddy thing, even I participated it in with dumb little VBS scripts I found online as a kid haha. Probably some honest confusion on that part. |
