CTF Subforum/Related Activity - grady - Oct 18, 2020

This is basically only important if HF wants to focus on attempting revitalizing a lot of "hacking"/technical content

Would be cool to have SF focused on CTF competitions/upcoming competitions
Would make it a lot easier to find specific problems/tutorials/writeups regarding specific technical approaches/etc.
Might bring a lot of more tech-focused people here.
Might also bring a method of condensing the "Hack" section since a lot of the section's activity has been dwindling over the years.

Dunno about any other "integration" that could be formed with HF, but it'd be cool to see a way to gauge someone's participation in shit like this with relevance to their HF profile. Bring some forum clout for having those technical abilities/past performance/etc.

I think this is a bit far out there, but I don't think it's a bad idea.

This is a different approach to the normal CTF suggestions. I like the idea of being able to easily collaborate with others on CTF's, and a subforum with a dedicated sectional mod or two (to keep cheating at bay (no sharing flags before CTF is done!)) would be an excellent way to do so. I just fear that there aren't enough CTF's to keep that subforum consistently active. Could do a topic per challenge + additional topics for general help, but I still fear activity would be low.

RE: CTF Subforum/Related Activity - ETH - Oct 18, 2020

I accept SUI-3183372 things as people could use that as flag sharing things
in my opinion many didnt get exposure as they want to just earn money by some way as fast as possible

But i still trying to get people about the CTF team , i talked with Bastille , 7 , SUI-3183372 about forming team separately, by this way we could create a CTF team to conduct CTF events regularly by asking permissions from Omni for HF official CTF's and unofficial CTF events

But subforum activites makes the getting more CTF oriented people's get into the HF

I think using it for specifically post-CTF questions, etc would end up being more beneficial. Having people use it for flag-sharing/other "cheating" type activities would probably put HF on a shitlist for the CTF community--probably not a desirable effect.
It would probably end up having weekly/weekend activity only, so the low activity fear is definitely true. I wasn't thinking about that at all.

Would be nice too, since people looking for/at writeups would be brought to HF too via Google/etc.

I really getting fear on flag sharing , attacking the ctf site techniques like things will be the main issues
We could create the forum dedicated for writeups , but suddenly we cant able to stop leaking answers publicly

It would require a sectional mod for sure.
A simple forum rule stating: "While a CTF is active, no sharing of flags, no posting write ups, and no big/detailed hints."

That way, while a CTF is active, people can post questions trying to get nudges in the right direction, then once the CTF has ended, people can post full on write-ups for those challenges.

Can also branch out a bit and include write ups for sites like HackTheBox, TryHackMe, etc.

Anyways, this is a bit of how I'd envision such a subforum, OP can dictate if I'm off his suggestion's mark at all:

As someone who actively does CTF challenges, I would totally love to see a CTF section on HF. Write-ups, walkthroughs, help with a level etc.

Right on the mark.

Wow I never saw that subforum in past

Honestly I think this would be a nice touch.

That was just me inspect element-ing marketplace discussion. Was just giving an example of what I think a successful CTF section would look like.

I would love this to happen, it's a dream.

Currently all I see is random third worlders begging for cracks/instagram hacks

Would be helpful if we had some more technical content.

You never saw the other part of HF then as the cracking is really small part

RE: CTF Subforum/Related Activity - Nulla Misericordia - Oct 22, 2020

It would definitely incite a lot more users to the site, plus I suppose that it would counter balance the whole morally grey area of the forum coughcough*Marketplace*coughcough

So yeah count me in
