The most empathetic have edgiest humor. - Mr. Robot - Oct 26, 2020

This is something I have anecdotally seen as getting older.

The people who laugh the most and spread the edgiest humor seem to be the ones who have the most empathy.

Empathy as defined:
the ability to understand and share the feelings of another.

And the ones who constantly tell you that it's not funny or disgusting - have a jealous level of sympathy as defined:
feelings of pity and sorrow for someone else's misfortune.

I think this causes a break in balance when it comes to virtue signaling.

Thoughts?

I totally agree with you mate ans would like to add one more as the one who makes other's laugh are the ones with more problems.

I could not agree more with this, my girlfriend somehow think that she is the most empathic person, yet she is jealous, says so many things I do is stupid or disgusting, plus, she would rather be sad, than to experience something fun. I am truly trapped right now.

Such an awesome idea. I instantly started thinking about people that have "edgy" humor and every one of who I came up with, is a really empathetic person - atleast from my perspective.

I rarely have any communication issues with people (really hard to get in a fight with me as I try to understand people on a deeper lever depending on what has recently been going on in their lives and their "norms") and I am quite social. I, atleast I think i am, a person with a high level of empathy and my jokes can get pretty out of hand from time to time.

I've never thought of it that way; nice revelation, OP.

On one hand, I am probably reasonably empathetic and do have relatively dark sense of humour, I think a counter example could be older generations. My mother is very empathetic, but she doesn't appreciate darker humour, while my father is rather egocentric and does have darker humour.

But I think that your thesis is more accurate for the younger generation(s).
