G/CPU upgrade suggestions? (cheapest finds) - Chevy - Nov 16, 2020

So. I'm wanting to try to upgrade my CPU and GPU from their current states.

They are a Ryzen 5 2600x and an MSI GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Gaming X.

I have a $300 budget - what can you suggest?

For $300 you could grab a 3700x. Your GPU sits in the $300 category anyway, so no meaningful upgrades there.
Edit: Since you have an X570 board, you also have the option of grabbing a 5600x for $300, if you manage to get one.

The 3700x is R7 and 5600x is R5 right?

Yeah that's correct.

So in my case, what would be the benefits of upgrading to either?

Better gaming performance, better multithreaded performance for video editing/streaming.
Other than that, if your current CPU is doing everything you need it to, you're just kind of throwing $300 away.

My current build is in the following thread:

I suppose your statement would still stand, though.
