question regarding etherium - LuxuryModelNetwork - Nov 20, 2020 first off, I would like to say that this is by no mean meant to be a shitpost when the crypto market is going up in value. I have always been a crypto supporter and that is true to this day. Now my question is, why should I as a person invest into something that does not have a limit as to how much can be printed? Etherium as a product does allow for a lot of uses in the crypto space which I'm excited for as a gamer. however, when I look at it from an investing viewpoint, I don't get the same excitement as when I am looking at let's say bitcoin or XMR. even if we disregard the fact that BTC was the "first" crypto which is one of the reasons it's doing so well, the fact that BTC is limited to a flat amount of 21m and XMR at 18.4m it makes sense to invest into that as there is a limited supply. For etherium the supply arent limited, outside of bursts of value in the scene as we have seen in 2017 and recently now when new tokens are being printed daily with no stopping it, it's kinda hard to see the financial gain in investing into it. I might be overlooking some stuff and I am really interested in listening to other people's opinion regarding this. RE: question regarding etherium - shreder - Nov 20, 2020 There is a limit and that is our life expectancy. The fact of the matter is you Mr.Meleeman will likely have an average lifespan of maybe 72.6 years old (Sorry if I misgendered). You will likely not see the final Bitcoin mined anyway. While true Ethereum supply isn't limited it hardly matters, as the inflation rate will go near 0% if not negative. You're probably wondering if you read that right... "Did Shreder say negative inflation rate?!? What does that even mean?" Means more coins can get burned than issued, bringing the supply backward. But but but HOW? EIP-1559 my friend. https://cointelegraph.com/news/almost-1m-ether-would-have-been-burnt-in-past-year-if-fee-proposal-approved But what about the near 0% inflation rate then? Ethereum 2.0 my friend. https://docs.ethhub.io/ethereum-basics/monetary-policy/ TLDR? Ethereum will reach near 0% inflation rate if not negative before BTC ever reaches it's 21M supply limit. When you pay a fee on a transaction you send, it does not reverse the losses already caused to you by inflation, it adds to them. i swear i read somewhere monero had a maximum, granted i should probably have digged a bit more. i appreciate the replies however! You're not even trying anymore huh? https://bankless.substack.com/p/what-if-eth-had-a-fee-burn-5-years. We don't even need EIP-1559 to dip far below BTC inflation rate anyway. I agree but let's don't forget that we'll see first 21million btc and then 21million Monero. |
