My love for anime has dwindled Challenge to all anime lovers - Itachi Uchiha - Dec 20, 2020

I use to be very active in this part of the forum, I loved Anime and thought no way I’d ever devolve from that. I hate Naruto btw.

Now I can’t even watch half an episode without turning it off. I used to make AMVs and was very interested in the future of anime but now idk I just lost all the passion. Not now, I lost this passion years ago.

My wife loves anime and is currently rewatching Death Note, she does this basically daily. Anime was never something we bonded over, we have so much else in common. But for me anime just doesn’t do it anymore.

To be fair I don’t even watch television, no movies, cartoons or short stories. I have no interest in any of these I mostly play games if I’m bored. Recently bought her a Naruto game on the switch and she loved it for a bit I guess?

I’m issuing a challenge get me back into an art form I’ve loved, whatever anime I see posted here the most I will watch FULLY and if I like it I’ll make an AMV.

Edit:

Amv from literally forever ago. The skills I learned here make me money to this day.

It would be useful to list the anime’s you’ve watched

I would recommend Hunter x Hunter. My all time favorite

if you like game you might enjoy some RPG anime genre which I enjoy also as I'm also a gamer but I stop gaming for this season I will play again after 6-8 months I'm working on something I don't watch anime now days just once a week and it was very short mostly I just read manga because I can finish it fast vs you watch anime one episode is 30 mins...

anyway I recommend this anime if you enjoy games
*Log Horizon
*Overlord
*I Don't Want to Get Hurt, So I'll Max Out My Defense
*How NOT To Summon A Demon Lord
*that time i got reincarnated as a slime

Yeah I agree with both of these, need a list to know what you've already seen, and Hunter x Hunter is certainly my #1, followed closely by Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.

Are you asking for a large amount of random recommendations or would you prefer a serious set of recommendations based on your preferences and what you've watched previously. I generally don't watch much new anime and tend to find myself indulged in much older anime if you're looking to watch something from that "golden era" that you may not have seen yet or some of the newer anime that do very well depending on your tastes. Let me know what you've seen or genres that you enjoy and I can give you recommendations.

If not then to echo some of the other posts Hunter x Hunter or FMA are excellent starting anime. (2011 HxH over the 1999 as it contains much more of the story, as for FMA I found the best means of the series was to watch FMA (2003) -> Conqueror of Shamballa (film, completes FMA 2003) -> FMA: Brotherhood. While you do not need to watch the first two to watch FMA:B, you get more in depth episodes from the beginning of the story in FMA (2003) whereas that is more or less summarized in the first 10-12 episodes of FMA:B).

Here’s my MAL,
Not a big fan of the FMA anime. I started watching those on Adult Swim(does this even exist still?).

Most animes nowadays are very meta and cater to very specific audiences, I'm not sure what your exact tastes are, but for me, it's the movies that made me go back to watching anime.

Well, here's a few random throws that you might want to watch based on your MAL.

- Re:Creators
- Darling in the Franxx
- One Punch Man

~ Rewatch and finish the Monogatari Series.
~ Finish the Yahari Series.

I actually love the ideal of rewatching Monogatari, was one of my favs by far. Will start this tonight.

I'm in the same boat, I've maybe finished 4-5 anime in the past 2 years.

That said, I recommend catching up to Attack on Titan if you haven't already. Final season is airing right now.

EDIT: 2nd post in 9 months and I get a green egg award from it. I don't even know what this is.

Egg is like a titan you get and must use to battle other people’s titans? It’s difficult to say tbh a lot has changed since I’ve come back.

Nice I finish Bake I’ll definitely take a look at AOT2 had I liked one.

I concur with Lyralei to finish Monogatari.

As for a few other recommendations, you can try:
-Azumanga Daioh (similar in style and comedy to Nichijou) and currently on your On-Hold list)
-Finishing Naoki Urasawa's Monster (one of the best mystery/thriller anime I've seen, and arguably one of the best anime/manga created imho. It is a long one at 74 episodes but its very well done)
-Mekakucity Actors (I have not personally seen this myself, but I've always heard this as an anime to watch after Monogatari series due to the similar art style and storytelling so I will give it as an honorable mention)
-Planetes (on your PTW) is one of the more realistic space stories I've seen. It has a little bit of everything from romance, slice of life, action and a mix of some drama and comedy.

Those are a few that come to mind from seeing your list, however if you are looking for anything genre-specific or anything pertaining to an anime you've seen I could give more but this is a general list that should be of use. Seeing as you've seen your fair share of anime I imagine you've acquired a particular taste.

Honestly I find the mainstream ones really good right now: My Hero Academia and Attack on Titan have good storylines and animation.

RE: My love for anime has dwindled Challenge to all anime lovers - ankitkhosya - Dec 27, 2020

hey man, i want to know that this anime burn out is common and it's also a part of realization that anime is just another entertainment medium, we dont need to fuss much over it.

there would be 4-5 series every year that are worth watchin and you would like them and that is perfectly fine.

RE: My love for anime has dwindled Challenge to all anime lovers - Verethragna - Jan 14, 2021

I agree with the post above me. I get anime burnout all the time. My wife calls them phases lol. I usually have a cycle I go through.
Anime then real people shows (as I call them), then I'll read some xianxia novels and let me tell you they are incredibly epic and usually you can find them online for free. I like to read on my laptop and my phone wherever I am. Xianxia novels and Anime have gotten me through some tough mental times where I was almost at the end of my rope and those stories gave me an escape and life lessons through the good guys and the bad. If you're tired of regular anime, I fully recommend donghua (Chinese animation) because the visuals are usually different and the stories are too. Chinese culture is amazing and I promise you'll love it. The subs are usually fan-based, so sometimes the English translation isn't spot on, but for me, that adds to the charm. My favorites right now are Douluo Dalu/Soul Land ( so so epic and the wuxia novel is even better! https://www26.gogoanimes.tv/douluo-dalu-soul-land-episode-1), Yao Shen Ji/Tales of Demons and Gods ( my favorite character in any story, won't spoil but the main character comes back to life with the knowledge from his prior life and finds his friends from the past and teaches them everything he knows to get stronger and to fight. They go on so many cool adventures and the novel is still being written now https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swEO1M-4W-E&list=PLD-y4qFWYuCJmUgunMF5vU3iV9UjPWbN_) Battle Through the Heavens is another great one, this one is near and dear to my heart. I loved the anime, but the novel is everything! The characters are so dynamic and the story as a whole is lovely https://www26.gogoanimes.tv/doupo-cangqiong-episode-1. I have dozens, but the last donghua I'll recommend is The King's Avatar. Great story about the best video game player in China and how he gets screwed over with his present company and then rebuilds everything from the ground up. It was incredible as an anime and novel and inspiring. The anime is still going I believe, but the novel is finished. I may have shed a tear lol. https://www.thekingavatar.com/season-1-episode-1/. I actually just found out while looking for the link that Netflix made a live show of The King's Avatar. I'm so pumped lol.

For xianxia/wuxia I recommend Solo Level which is amazing. The world and system of magic (it's not magic per se, but don't want to spoil JIC) is ridiculously cool in my opinion. The alternate name is I Alone Level Up! https://www.readlightnovel.org/solo-leveling/chapter-1. Next, we have Stellar Transformations. I love it and the main character is epic. The way he uses his abilities is amazing https://www.readlightnovel.org/stellar-transformation/volume-1/chapter-1. I'll also recommend Coiling Dragon which is written by the same author https://www.readlightnovel.org/coiling-dragon/volume-1-the-ring/chapter-1. The ending of these two books literally blew away my little mind lol. So of the novels may start slow, but give it time and you'll fall in love. The last one I'll recommend is I Shall Seal The Heavens. This is actually the last one I've read only because I needed a break after reading it. It was deep man, to me at least. There was one line in the book where the main says Snow will only appear during winter and can only exist in the cold wind. Therefore, its life exists only during the depths of winter.
Snow can only live in the winter. When it nears a fire, it dies. In my hand, the snow becomes water because it is not its world. And he then described himself as snow because he had become powerful and didn't belong in the normal human world anymore. It resonated with me. He has hundreds of amazing quotes (literally. You can google Meng Hao quotes), but this is my favorite. "What I Want, the Heavens Shall Not Lack, and What I Don't Want Better Not Exist in the Heavens!" It gave me cheers. Not sure why, but that domineering manner gave me chills. I had never even heard a character in a story be that audacious and I absolutely love it. I ugly cried at the end of this one lol. The main Meng Hao went through so so much. At the end of the story, I had too many emotions about it and couldn't pick a book up. It's that epic, to me at least https://www.readlightnovel.org/i-shall-seal-the-heavens/volume-1-patriarch-reliance/chapter-1.

For anime, I'll give a couple. The Irregular at Magic High School has one of the most impressive magic systems I've ever seen. I love how they go through the specifics of how the magic works. I won't link these. Fingers getting tired lol. Is It Wrong To Try To Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon. Amazingly wholesome anime. Like if you want to feel good and root for the main char this is it. This anime is sweet, yes, but the action is there too. If you're into Greek mythology you'll love this! Berserk is dark, twisted, f'ed up, amazing, and bada$$. Last but not least I'll give you Gate. It's only one season, but it's amazing and I loved how they set everything up. A portal opens in Japan to another world and Japan's military goes through the Gate and makes history.

The last method for curing burnout is recommending Anime to other people. It'll reignite that love you have for your favorites you may find some new ones. I hope this finds you and whoever reads this well. I know how much Anime and wuxia novels have impacted and helped my life, so I wanted to give a little back. If anyone need more ideas feel free to pm or chat. Peace and love to all =D
