3.1GHz 6-core i5 10th gen. - 8GB RAM - 256GB SSD - Radeon Pro 5300 4GB GDDR6 - MXWT2
- iMac 27" (2020) 3.8 - 2490 euros
3.8GHz 8-core i7 10th gen. - 8GB RAM - 512GB SSD - Radeon Pro 5500XT 8GB GDDR6 - MXWV2
I have the budget for both. Dont ask me how many thousands of dollars do these cost. Im not flexing n shit im just asking if its an overkill to buy these cause i only need them for productivity and software engineering.

If you don't plan on doing major video editing or any type of gaming then you should be fine with the first one. However... I personally would hope for at least a larger SSD than 256GB.

If you are ordering from Apple's website, upgrade to 16GB of RAM and also upgrade to a 512GB SSD. You definitely want 16GB of RAM in today's times. There will be very little benefit to buying the more expensive CPU + graphics card that come in the second configuration. I mean if money is truly no object, then sure, but it's not going to really help your productivity in any meaningful way.
