I normally use the term, "Browse" to express my activity on the internet but I do recall using, "Surf", a few times before in the past.

I browse through the pages of the internet, seeking out those who spark my interests.
Surf sounds like surfing the waves, which sounds in my opinion as going fast and smooth over the internet like a YouTube playlist.
Can't explain it any better why I choose browse.
