Tips for python learning - Ace - Feb 6, 2021

Hey so I'm basically trying to practise python and I'm looking into projects that are not too easy. I really struggle on what I want to code but I want something useful. Any tips?

I personally watched a video with mosh about learning python when i started some time ago and then i moved onto making a semi huge discord selfbot, probably should've started with something simpler but that works :).

Start with something simple and built off of it. Making simple games like sudoku, battleship, hangman, etc are great ways to practice. Once you got the fundamentals down, you can start learning libraries that relate to what you want to do. If you want to learn web dev, flask/Django are great. If you want to learn networking, python is a great way to learn socket programming. There’s modules for practically anything you’d want to do.

Look into something that will also be helpful in other things you do.
Like for example, I play Pokemon so would be cool if I would make a pokedex.

Later on add moveset data (like damage and such) and then compare pokemons which each other.

My biggest tip is not to copy and paste when you're following tutorials. Type out all the code yourself - it will help you internalize what you're doing.

Yeah, that's what I'm doing, just so I can learn how to type faster and know where all the buttons are etc.

Courses and long tutorials can be super boring sometimes. Another thing I'd suggest is think of something that would be useful to you or something that you want to do. Blackjack, password generator, file/text sorter, simple hack tools, animations, battleship, hangman, whatever. (just stay console based for now. Dont mess with guis) Then just look up a tutorial for it on youtube (theres bound to be one). It may be a bit above the beginner level you are used to, but just do a quick search of how something works if you aren't sure. Then once you are fairly confident in understanding how the whole thing works, move on to something else. Think of something you want to make yourself, and don't be afraid to google a lot. Even the best programmers google how to get a certain letter from a string, or how to add together all numbers in a array, or whatever Traceback they are getting.

This in my opinion is better and more engaging than watching a 7 hour tutorial where you make a hello world, calculator, and mad libs game :)
