Which Hashing algorithm do you work with - c7rl0v3rr1d3 - Mar 18, 2021 Which Hashing Algorithm Do you think is cool for password on a database. A friend told me to go with sha256 but I think bcrypt is cool because of the slowness and been slow gives rainbow table headache. Which Hashing algorithm do you use and what do you think about it. RE: Which Hashing algorithm do you work with - Stetsed - Mar 18, 2021 Even sha256 is insane and will not be cracked, like ever. But if you wanna go balls to the walls go sha512 RE: Which Hashing algorithm do you work with - c7rl0v3rr1d3 - Mar 18, 2021 Thank you stetsed I really appreciate, I will try out sha512 RE: Which Hashing algorithm do you work with - webworker - Mar 19, 2021 Unsalted hashes are not secure for a password database, doesn't matter their output length. An attacker could use rainbow tables or even just identify identical passwords at a glance. You can salt the passwords on your own and use something of the sha2 family, but you're still sacrificing both your own comfort (by taping together an ad-hoc solution) and your users' security by not using a strong password-hashing function (one that takes time and memory to compute). |
