Ethereum pass-praise Scam (honeypot) - SIM-3336514 - May 22, 2021

This is what happens,
a guy post his 12 word passphrase in telegram,fb , groups, for asking help about transactions or rubbish,

the address got some valuable erc20 tokens in side, so people log in with passphrase and deposit ETH to take out tokens to their adress

but the ETH deposited is gone to another address within seconds.

the wallet is rigged to forward all the recieving ETH to another adress.

so the once who tried to take advantage of passphrase actually get them to lost their ETH that sent to the adress.

is there a way to drain the honeypot?
this is like your keys but not your crypto

If those are actual erc20 tokens which are actually valuable and not fakes you can create the two transactions (ETH in and tokens out) and send them to a miner to include them in the next block without sending it to the mem-pool.

This way there'd be no way to frontrun any of the transactions.

This sounds like a potential way to scam some scammers lol.
Can't believe I've never heard of this before.

EDIT: I mean just imagine setting up a "community" wallet, dedicated to victims of scams, stealing BACK from the scammers, and then doing airdrops from that wallet, re-compensation those who've lost their funds. Sounds too good to be true, but if this honeypot is possible, then this is in theory, POSSIBLE.

Wow I'm not going to praise the guy for scamming, but this is actually a smart way of making someone else think their the winner in the situation. I don't feel bad for the victims at all though considering they're the ones trying to drain the wallet.

it was very used at the time of the airdrops (2017?). the participants lists were direct online so some poeple put their privatekey in adrresses places...

This reminds me of that scam where people post fake convos on websites like imgur giving out their username and passwords.

Then scammers try to log in and withdraw the coins by depositing and they get scammed lol

There was a thread about it on HF a couple months back but I can't find it.

Edit: Found it! https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=6115702

This is very interesting and I cannot believe that I have not heard of this until reading this thread.

I love this idea! Justice for dumb crypto victims! However, sometimes people need to learn the hard way to make them less susceptible to other not so known scams in the future. I had to learn by dealing with malicious people for my in-game items. If I managed to get them back through support, I would not have questioned and researched everything else in the future. Although I would still have loved to recover my losses, I really needed the money at the time...
